Congrats on your new truck! You're going to love that DC as I know I love my '06 DC. I think someone over on Tundrasolutions.com has got 700k+ on their 1st gen which I think is pretty encouraging

I have a 05 DC and in the past have thought maybe I should have got a taco for ease of modification ... Until I drove a taco and realized how much I would miss the space and torque I have,1 gen tundra is the way to go

Hey everyone! havent been on in a while, I have been way too busy with everything else. Yesterday I had to give the truck some love, I had my drivers seat rocking real bad on the RH side which I just put up with for a while until it started to squeak!! I took the drivers seat out and started to take it apart and I had found that the bar that runs across the rear of the seat that allows the seat to be rocked forward or backwards had broken, so I tore apart the frame got the welder out and welded it back together. I could not be more happy with the result no more rock and no more squeak!!!

After that I decided to wire in the 3rd brake lamp on the topper so I got out the soldering iron and stole power from the LR tail and ran little wire up to the plug in for the topper and solved the 3rd brake lamp issue only thing that is left is to run power for the interior light inside the topper but I do not know if i should run power from the truck or just get like a motorcycle 12v and use it I would like to have it wired hot all times but I do not want to risk leaving it on.

another project I am doing is building a sleeping platform in the bed I built it on the pass side of the bed 7" of storage under it I just really need to figure out a hinge system that can close and keep a nice tight gap for the lid. I will try and get some pictures once it is all finished

So far I have been very happy with the truck, I still need to get some cash saved for new suspension, tires, and ARB front bumper but I need to pick my battles sometimes, Hope all is well.

Say, I need to wire my 3rd brake light on my 2006 DC... can you please share more details how you did this?

Congrats on your truck. As far as the power issue goes, you may want to do an isolated solar system as I did. I am very pleased with how it has worked out. See my build thread for more info.

Hey, how do you like the DC Tundra in comparison to your 1500hd? I'm looking to upsize from my taco and have looked hard at both. i really like what the Tundra has to offer, but many of the 3/4 ton components on the 1500HD draw me in. how's the power and fuel mileage compare? What about road comfort and noise?
Lastly, do they drive/feel roughly the same size, especially when parking and what not?

Thanks!

I'm not the op but I can speak to this I have a 06 DC tundra and a 1500 HD for a work truck and I upgraded to the tundie from a Tacoma. I get better gas milage with my tundra but its a 4.7 compared to a 6.0. On the road the tundra feels smoother but its long. It takes a little to get used to especially coming from a tacoma. The interior on the tundra feels huge my wife commonly rides in the back with our 17 month old she 5 10 and I'm 6'3 and she can sit behind me and not have her knees in the seat. In the woods the tundra has the Toyota feel that you would be used to from the tacoma... Just remember how long it is! My 1500 just feels wide. Might just be my perception. Both trucks have the same amount of mileage and are used in the woods probably 75% of the time. The 1500 has never had anything major but seems to be needing something every couple oil changes ujoint, bad o2 sensor, etc... The tundra...nothing, just like my Tacoma. I cant help you on the power question since my load is usually just a snowmobile. At higer speeds on the main artery logging roads the tundra is smooth as if you are on pavement the 1500 kind of hops a little not as bad as a 3/4 ton the Hope this helps.

Hey sorry for the delay in reply it takes extra long since I dont have a computer and have to do everything threw my phone
In my personal experance with the 2 trucks I do miss my 1500HD but I do not miss the little issues it always had my silverado had 180k when I traded it in issues it had where rear main seal leak/oil consumption and needed front brake calipers and other little things.

MPG wise the tundra gets better MPG I only got 11-12 with the silverado even when pulling a car trailer loaded best MPG I ever saw was 14 coming home from colorado with the wind at my back otherwise 12 it got. Tundra I can average about 15-17 MPG
Size wise they are roughly the same wheelbase but the 1500 felt bigger but I always backed into parking spots because it was much more easy for me than trying to pull in. with the tundra I pull in 90% of the time.
Power wise the 6.0 wins Yes it is a dog!! but it will pull what you need it wont be fast but it will pull its all about the gearing the tundra is more snappy but it I feel scared to pull more than a utility trailer with it
I feel that the brakes on the silverado are hands down better, 4 wheel disk with dual piston calipers front and rear and having hydro-boost is amazing!! the drums on the tundra rear are lacking and I really wish I could install rear disks

4x4 - My silverado was a tank, it was big and heavy and I rarely needed to put the truck in 4x4 all winter I would just throw in some sand and keep it in 2wd, when the silverado is in 4x4 it likes to push really bad when turning and the locker in the back didnt help much.
the tundra I have the worst time getting around in 2wd I feel like it needs to be in 4x4 any time its slick, yes I dont have the same tires as I had on my silverado yet but they will come

Another thing is features chevy wins on the features hands down
silverado had leather, heated seats power everything. lots of room more rear leg room than the tundra I cant lay the seats flat and nap in the back of the tundra like I could in the silverado

I guess if I had to go back I wish i would have kept my silverado it has more things I liked other than the mechanical things but they could have all been fixed and I would have had a great truck with poor mpg
my tundra has been trouble free for almost a year other than a steering rack I had to install and I had to weld the drivers seat frame back togeather I am hoping that yes I have less options in the tundra but I hope it lasts longer I hope my rambling helps a little

Thanks for the feedback! Ive been on the fence for a while now. I had a short bed crew cab 2500hd a while back so I know what yo expect in regards to interior and driving but I havent yet driven the tundra.
your input was valuable for sure! Great looking rig by the way.

Hey everyone checking in I know it's been a long time but have had a lot going on! I am in the process of upgrading wheels and tires I have a set of goodyear duratracks in 265/75/16 and I want to get some steel wheels from wheelers does anyone have there steel wheels installed ? And how do they look ? I am just trying to picture them on my truck. I am thinking of the gm truck center caps painted black to use in place of the poke thew ones from wheelers thanks in advance ! I got these tires here and I want them on ASAP !

why steel wheels? they are really heavy and can hurt your MPG. not to many people i know run steel wheels on the tundra

I am looking for something to replace the factory wheels, I want something that's black, I plan on mounting these duratracks to them and keeping my Firestones mounted on the factory wheels

Tons of aluminum wheels come in black and tons of factory Toyota rims you pick from and get powder coated any color you want.
You going steel wheels because of price? I think the extra rotating mass can cost more in the long run
