I have seen a recent rack from them on an 03 Disco- it was bad. Real bad.
Cruise used car dealers until you find a truck with the rack you want. Offer the sales manager cash for it and explain how between garage clearance and wind noise, they'll never sell the truck with the rack still on it. Then make a cash offer and mention that you don't need a receipt. I've done it three times now and it worked every time. Most I've paid for a rack is $800- and that had four Hella lamps on it and was 2 years old.

Unfortunatly, the nearest used dealer is 2 hours drive away... and the nearest auto mall is 3 hours drive. Were a bit limited on what we have out here in the boonies. For my purpose a short rack is all I need, as I'll be building an off-road trailer over winter. Carrying too much stuff on the roof isn't ideal as it can get damaged by low branches on the forest trails.

British Pacific used to have a half-rack that was pretty cool. I traded one off a couple months ago, but that sounds like what you might need. Maybe they still have them. It was a basket that went over the rear half of the roof, from about where the stock (useless) roof rails end back to the rear edge of the roof. Sides of the basket were about 4"-5" high and it mounted on the drip rails, kinda like every other SD or Hannibal rack.

Thanks, but I really wanted a rack to mount to the front of the roof (just the lower part). Basically I was going to just get a light bar with a guard added on to protect the lamps but if I'm putting that on I might as well have a small rack.

It'll only be used in summer & have to come off for winter otherwise I'll be a carrying around way too much snow on top.

Perhaps I am not too late.

I have bought one of Andy's ( Roverrack ) SD style for my 03 DII, and I have nothing but AWESOME things to say from Quality, through Delivery and Follow Up.

Even I receive the Rack with couple of additional options I did not order nor paid for. Upon production, apparently 2 racks were built I ordered options XYZ and the other customer UVW, well we both got UVWXYZ free of charge.

The DII sold and after 1 year still looks perfect.

( has been laid against trees, mud walls and loaded with Peli Cases )

Just my experience and facts .

Thanks Michaels,

That's just what I was looking for plus a cage around the lights to protect them from low trees & branches, I already have BC pinstriping on my roof :Wow1:

Rugbier, do you have any pic's of your rack that you can post up.

I'm still undecided on which way..... my other option is to fabricate my own. I do have Bendtech but no JD2 tube bender.... maybe I spend the money on a tube bender and do my own..... decisions.... decisions.... :coffee:

Justin,

I will never doubt what I hear about them, but It isn't my case.
Could it be possible the ones with problems were made pre-Andy's time ( Florida ).

rugbier,

would love to see more details on that disco schaweeet

I've sold the DII 8 months ago, but I could dig more pics .
What details in particular are you interested?

I can give you a little info:

Originally was a SE 2003, ( wanted a G4 but not in Tangier color ), I saw in UK G4s in White, Yellow, Black and of course Tangier, so I made my DII and exact duplicate of the ones there, with the exception, my winch is mounted with a hidden tray ( DAP-INC ) as opossed to the outer tray.

I have trimmed the lower balnce of the Bumper.

2004 TC with CDL, 2" OME HD, Snorkel ( Mantec ), Rock Sliders ( Bottroff ), Roof (Roverracks ), Superwinch LP8500 ( with in cab control ) , Destination Tires, Hella Lights ( incl or Back Up ), G4 light guards front and back.
