Pelican/Action Packers or any cases on Gobi Rack

Delta (as in delta tools) also has a new line of waterproof boxes. Not as tough as pelicans of course, but I have no desire to be tossing my stuff off of a cliff. Cheaper then pelicans, but I believe the sizes are limited.

I myself use a combination of what I have; a couple of Stanley fatmax toolboxes, a couple action packers (not waterproof, not crush proof), and a couple of north face duffle bags (not entirely waterproof, but by smart about how you orient on the rack, and they should be fine). And if I completely run out of interior space, the cooler goes up there as we'll.

Of course, I live in an area of 300 days of sun a year,.... So waterproof is less of a priority.

As far as connecting to the rack, a dozen cargo tie downs meet my needs. None of the racheting type for me, they can easily crush action packers or bend camp chair legs.

Just dont get too big of a case. I picked up a pair of 1780's and thought it was a great idea, i could stuff all my crap in there and throw it on the rack and be done. Yeah, they weigh a ton when full and make it a chore to get up on the rack. I would pop the top off and unload them halfway when we got to our destination and then pull them down. Nice in theory, but in practice it would be better suited to a truck bed than a roof rack. I just secured them with a ratchet strap and put a cable lock through

Yup those are huge.
Looks big and beefy though.

Another idea to toss out into the thread...Wolf pack boxes (Front Runner). I have 4 of them and they pack really nice...are pretty heavy duty (although not huge) and have tie down slots on all four sides. They are not too tall and seem to hold most of the gear I need to pack in hard cases. They are very inexpensive compared to Pelican cases.

Thanks to all those who replied.... From your experience, it would be good to go with smaller boxes that don't weigh a ton when packed, which makes sense. Alot of companies to look at. Thanks all.

I run Pelican cases on mine all of the time. They work great!

X3.... lol.

What are the interior dimensions of the gobi rack with the sunroof insert installed? Like 46.75"?

The Pelican 1720 Long Case case seems like it would mount nicely in that area sitting at about 44.5" wide x 16" long x 6" tall. This would leave about 55-60" left of the length of the Gobi rack for an RTT.

I have used seahorse cases in the past as luggage on my motorcycle (KLR 650 adventure), And I had great success with them. They are 99 percent as strong as Pelican, I ran one over with my F150 s/crew and it was fine. I have no issues using them as storage cases for the top of my roof rack.

Best part, 1/3 of the cost of pelicans.
