Poor GPS tracking - is this an app or device issue?

Thx for the update and that's all I was asking is if one tablet or device was functioning better in a normal setting as compared to using an app.. Here's a for instance.. While using my wife's LG Rebel I took this screen shot with the location setting on and simply view Google maps via my Opera Browser:

Although I've scaled back just to view the entire map.. this view is from the Opera web browser and I've simply accessed (not login) the Google maps home page. The objective is to see if you're getting that 6 sec or less delay when tracking your movements.. and according to what you've said above, I'm leaning more towards an data transference with those apps that seem to be slow in location your current position.

I realize that you like map.me and those other apps.. but if their not keep real time data, then I would suggest moving on.. So I'm not going to wonder why you're needed all that data and imaging on the screens above.. Unless there's something I'm missing. Just trying to use the least amount of apps as possible to achieve what you're looking for.. I might even suggest using an app reduction app.. as in Opera max, which can isolate any and all apps that could be running in the back ground of your current nav apps.

Have you tried using just your nav app without login to any other apps?.. have you transfer any of you apps to your SD card/s?.. You could be shooting yourself in the foot by doing this. Has the device been rooted?.. I mean I can go on about possible influences as to what could be causing this delay. But again I'm leaning towards the multiple logins your mapping services uses. Sort of like ping testing your connection via your computer..

If you've never ping tested your computer before.. it would show you how many hops it takes to access the data from one site back to your computer. This is not the same as a speed test and possibly your smart phone is doing the same thing.. to many hops thus the slow data transference and imaging.

Guess I've been hanging the android forums to much lately..

It's crazy the delay is hitting both devices. I could see one or the other having a flaw but both is odd; my old Asus Transformer had a well known issue with the metal casing blocking the antenna but developers usually make design mistakes like that anymore.

I wonder if an app in both devices is causing a processing lag that affects the GPS through the software. GPS works by calculating time differences in clocks that are milliseconds apart; if anything causes lag in those calculations it could throw things off.

I checked my GPS signals on my Note 4 on GPS Test and was getting all green and pale green bars when walking outside in the parking lot.

The G-Pad's issues I kind of attributed to heat damage from sitting on the dash, figured it messed up the internals or something. It likes to put itself into safe mode now, and that's the reason I decided to experiment with the different apps on the Note until I could get another tablet. The Note is only a little over a month old - it's actually one if the recalled models but I've had zero heat issues with it and everything else works fine so I doubt that's the problem.

I tend to keep background apps to a bare minimum; I might be running a downloaded podcast or something but that's it. So if there's something innthe background causing issues I've no idea what it is. I don't have an SD card in the phone right now, all of the maps are in the internal storage. It's not rooted, don't really want to risk bricking the phone.

The plan once I get another tablet has been to run Maps.Me and most likely Gaia and that will be all that's on it.

heh this might sound a bit funny but I've yet to see anyone mention this.. but does your vehicle have tinted windows?.. I learn this the hard way.. tinted windows tend to drowned out signals.. But yea you seem to know about these deceived more so than most I speak with on that Android forum. You're doing all the right things.. just unsure what other direction to approach on this.

Yeah, privacy glass on the rear doors back, front is still factory tint. Hadn't actually considered it to be a problem but I guess it's possible.
