Portland to Prescott on a Ural Solo

I made it to the coast - running on one cylinder. Battery is smoked and can't keep the bike running with the headlight on. Big grins!

Detoured from I5 because the draw of the coastline was too great. Glad I did.

The bike wont even kick start now, only firing after a bump start downhill.

I can't tell if you're being serious or now about the bike running poorly. If you are on the coast and need to have it looked at you might try The Zen House: The art of motorcycle maintenance in Point Arena - The owner is a real cool dude.

Keep capturing these great pics!
Awkwardly, we hope it's "downhill" for you(only to be able to bump start it).

She has been a naughty, naughty Russian, but I am still taking her home. . .

Eventually, the battery smoked completely, causing the alternator to fail, then insufficient voltage for ignition - смерть

It had just enough voltage to run on one cylinder, which got me into Crescent City, CA.

All because of a custom battery :( No standard battery would fit in the spot, and with the alternator not charging, I couldn't run the headlight.

We will take her back to Prescott, where we will fit a new battery, repair the alternator, give a complete tune and then head back into the desert for another round!

Can we send you another custom battery to keep you going Scott? Deka, Braille, Odyssey, your choice!

I'm thinking not. Icon put in a little lithium iron phosphate and sort of just attached to the front of the rear fender. There's not enough space or weight carrying for a non-LiFePO4 of proper capacity, and it's likely that a small enough AGM wouldn't have enough capacity to do any good.

What about towing a small trailer with a Group31 AGM? :bike_rider:

The Solo is safe in Prescott, completing the last 800 miles in a trailer pulled by our DII TReK.

Despite the abbreviate journey, it was still a wonderful trip. In particular, meeting up with fellow travelers along the way. A huge thanks to Mike for his help and hospitality - it was nice to finally meet in person.

We will spend the next couple weeks tearing the bike down and addressing the electrical challenges, battery, starter and alternator.

Thanks, Scott. It was good to share an adventure with you, no matter how modest. I trust you'll let me know when it's time to for us to do the rest of the coast with the Ural . . . or a Big Ruckus . . . or a sidecar.
