Possibly in the market for a disco

FWIW, I've got a 2002 D2 with 130K miles and a CDL conversion, I'd be open to negotiation. I haven't put it "up for sale" yet, but I'm thinking about it. The interior is worn, but the mechanicals have been maintained carefully; I've had it since 35K miles. It'd be around that price, or less.

2002 Land Rover Discovery Series II (D2)
4.0L V8
All wheel drive with locking center differential
Dual sunroofs
Power steering, power windows, power seats, power mirrors
Air conditioning (works great!)
Very comfortable ride!

"Borrego Edition" (similar to "Kalahari Edition") from Land Rover Special Vehicles - Borrego Yellow, hood blackout, Saudi grill, Safari Gard sliders, "Technical Fabric" seats

Rear ladder and D1 roof rack (fits properly, slightly shorter than D2 rack - about the size of a sheet of plywood).
No third row seats - has "cubby boxes" instead.
Towing package, plus trailer braking wiring. Tows 4000lb trailer very well.
Center locking differential (CDL) added, new transfer case, about $2500.
Factory "brush bars" on front, and rear taillight protectors.

120,000 miles, mostly highway. No accidents.
Serviced at California Autohaus (formerly California Rover) every 5000 miles. 120,000 mile service just done.
Non-smoker.

This vehicle has been driven off-road occasionally, but has not been used for "rock crawling". The center locking differential makes a lot of difference when driving through sand or slippery stuff.

Stereo works, CD changer does not work.
Rear bumper has some cracks.
Headliner is sagging in some places.

in 2008 from the car action i got 1995 d1 with 47 k miles salvaged tittle theft recovery only few parts were missing , that rover was a dream truck it was practically brand new condition , until some idiot driver crashed to it when it was parked. it wasn't fixable unfortunately , i payed 1500 for that rover , for that condition of a truck i would pay over 6 grand right now. i drove the truck over 23,000 miles never had one problem , and for some reason i think d1 is more authentic than d2 just my opinion

I too think I want to buy a Disco. I have a LR3 right now that I've been off roading but I'm looking for a off road only Land Rover. I'd be looking for one that is already modified. It would have to have at least a roof rack and a lift done on it. But I too am not sure what year to get. I just figured a 2000-04 because they are the newest but it seems like that isnt necessarily true.

Not sure why people are still so hung up on finding a truck without sunroofs. Sure they can be difficult sometimes but repairing them isnt really that difficult... I would never pass up on a good truck because it had dual roofs and would never buy a bad truck because it had no roofs.

Thread after thread of opinions of this, but all that really matters is your opinion.

Also, pre-built may save money, but it also may not. I've always built stock daily drivers and done the work myself (TJ, XJ, WJ, and now an '04 Disco). If it's already heavily modified then you can also assume it's seen its fair share of trails and has been driven rough (unless it's a mall cruiser). Also, "lifted" doesn't mean it was lifted correctly. Could end up costing a whole lot more than just a new OME suspension kit.

I do however wish a roof rack came on mine as that's a $900 expense I'd prefer to avoid. Oh well.

Good luck!

I'd be glad to discuss a partial trade for the LR3!

and t have a nicer road mannered d3 for he other party?

yeeahh I want both. I really enjoy the LR3 both on and off the trails. I agree with the previous statement about the more mods the more hard its been run. no matter what I bought I'd take it to the dealer and have it inspected.
