Project Steel Walrus

Here is one side of the bumper I had in mind. Lots more welding to do, but close to what I had in mind.

Oh yes, and BTW I totally scooped this idea from another portal member. Thank you for the great idea, I only hope that my bumpers come out as cool as yours did.

I finished the rough assembly of the bumper tonight. I now need to pull it all off the truck, finish welding, and add some support in the back. I like how it came out. I believe that I have exactly $50.00 into this bumper that includes the $35.00 I paid for the bull-bar off Craigs List.

Once complete, I will take it down to the sand blaster and have it stripped so that I can shoot it with black bed liner.

Maybe you can make the bull-bar fold forward? Would provide a good platform to stand or sit on if you need to do any work under the hood. Would make it somewhat removeable too.

Holy mackrel is it painting time. I decided to take advantage of the warm weather and paint the walurs. I used some design ideas from the new FJ and the period Ford trucks. This is all auto body quality urethane base coat/ clear coat. I should get quite a bit of use out of this.

Here are the hood and fenders

The Cab was the hardest part. A couple buddies and I spent 12 hours getting this ready and sprayed.

Doors are next to be painted (hopefully soon) and then I will be putting it all back together.

oooooh. Pretty!

I'm getting ready to paint my first vehicle. Practicing on the POS Dodge D100 'cause I could never make it worse, then if I feel comfortable I'll spray the Jeep.

Boy this thing is looking better than I could have imagined, especially based on that first picture. Congrats on having the vision to see it come together. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've got planned for the bed.

Looks Great!

Wow. My hat's off to you, this project is coming along great and I'm really impressed at the level of quality you're achieving doing it yourself and not blowing big bucks on it. Proves that it really can be done, and well.

Great job!
Jay.
