Sounds like you are :) I imagine the Prescott contingency will be showing up late afternoon.

We should be hitting Payson somewhere around lunchtime on friday and then heading in to set up camp. There's plenty of spots to camp along the trail and alot of them are big enough for multiple vehicles. Who plans on getting up there first and picking a spot?

What time are you heading North? I'll be leaving home sometime in the morning.

...assuming of course that I get the jeep back in time. It heads to the shop to "recover" from the Expedition Trophy 2006, Monday morning.

FYI- there is a most excellent camping spot right near the start of the trail. I will try to describe- right after the trail starts, a road crosses it. This road can be accessed by following the original dirt road that leads to the trailhead for another 100 yeards or so. If you follow this trail-crossing road for perhaps 100 yards beyond where it crosses the trail, you will find the most excellent camp site on your left. Room for perhaps 10 trucks, plenty of level spots for tents, and the trail circles around it.

If you don't remember where the trail starts, you're SOL. :D
If my instructions were clear as mud, you're also SOL, although as you stated there's an abundance of most excellent camp sites all over the place out there.

...the Chino "contingent" will be arriving Sat morning - keep an ear out on CB 4 if possible! Gotta go into Payson first to get topped off after the drive over.

You afraid of a little rain on the 100? Does it lose all capability in the snow?:D

Not really, but if it's a mess out there I have the Lexus to hurt. Last time dry I put the LExus door into a huge rock.

Ummm... - you mean channel 4WD 2 right? (146.460)

nope, the 2M rig is in the Taco...and I've been procrastinating on getting a HT. Haven't decided on a tri, dual, or just a cheap 2M yet.

The BPOS is a great rock rig - but not so good as a camping rig. I have a hell of a time finding room for a cooler an a couple gas cans, let alone cool weather camping gear. I'll be leaving Chino at 6:00 AM...gonna be a sloooooooooow drive up hill from Camp Verde :smiley_drive:

Leave the school bus at home. You know as well as I do that you are going to run the last section of trail no matter what you bring :)violent-smiley-031: ), so just save yourself the gray hair and bring the lexus.

You know what....I'm not going through another $200 drive shaft. I ran the last little bit already, spent 2 hours getting my buddy Mike up and out due to a bent rear arm...I go to the 3rd road crossing and retire. Really.

So, the Great Big Whale goes......

I'm gonna go into work for a couple of hours in the EARLY am and plan on getting on the road around 10am.
Wanna caravan?
Last time I went up there I cut through FJ to Mesa, past the lake and then onto the highway.

Spike, thanks for the destructions, clear as mud.

In that movie I saw lots of revving engines and spinning wheels, not a good example of how to tread lightly even though the text at the start said BFG was dedicated to it. I saw nobody from the sponsor companies actively promoting even the most basic of tread lightly principles, for example explaining to people not to spin wheels especially in the wet or putting the rocks back where they got them from. In fact, I question the idea of taking 30 vehicles through any trail in the rain, sure most of this trail is bedrock but trucks at the end had mud spray all up their sides and that mud came from spinning wheels on the trail.

Tread lightly is so important for trails such as Pyeatt because it has got a lot of attention lately in the press. At the current rate it will be wrecked in a couple years.

Well Robthebrit, I need to thank you for making me watch that. I read your scathing review of the trail manners of those involved with that run, and had to see for myself. I guess we have different ideas about irresponsible off road driving. I only saw one instance of tires going around more than one revolution, and that was on a slickrock ledge- I doubt if he hurt the trail there. I must have missed the rocks being moved and not replaced, although it's entirely possible the ones you saw moved got replaced sometime in the other 4+ hours of the run that were not recorded. You were right about the mud on the sides of trucks, although the 3 miles of muddy road that must be traversed to get to the trail might have contributed. In fact, my wife's truck still has mud from that road from 3 months ago- and she didn't run the trail itself, she joined me at the trailhead to camp for the night after I ran it.

Although it must sound like it, I'm not here for an arguement. I honestly only watched the video to put faces to the wheelers who would trash a trail that I love dearly. I wheel here in Arizona quite a bit, and chances are that I would know them or run across them in the future. I'm glad to say that I'd be proud to wheel with any of them, in my opinion that video could be a promotional for the TreadLightly group. That trail ain't no forest road, and in my honest opinion a half-revolution of tire slippage isn't 'wheel spin'. I felt it necessary to post this in case someone else reads your opinions and might have a bad impression about the people involved without actually watching the video. I'd invite anyone who might feel that way to watch the first 10 minutes at least- I know an hour is a long time to watch other people wheel- you can rest assured that it doesn't get any worse. My compliments to the organizers and especially Rim Country 4 Wheelers- you all did yourselves proud.
