Range Rover Classic Experiance?

Did some checking, apparently there were only 120 Hunter editions made in 1989. That would explain why they are so seldom seen.

I know that but when you take that year and 120 vs. the number of other trim levels produced, they are pretty damn rare.

Lots of good info.

ive got a 91 Hunter no abs no sun roof no sway bars no leather. ive put a disco t-case in it a crower cam from D&D lifted armored blah blah blah. I think there are about 500 hunters, read on rangerovers.net for specs on each year they've been available. They are extremely easy trucks to work on there is a good bit of parts interchangeability with Discos. Early trucks untill late 93 had 10 spline axles/diffs. These will go eventually with heavy offroad use and big tires.

My dream truck is pretty much my setup with an ARB fridge R380, 235's 3:80 gears ARBs, 4.6 and a nicer radio. A Range Rover Classic will out wheel a Disco any day of the week, best Rover to leave Solihull IMO

Any chance youre selling? Haha, I know youre probably not but worth a shot.

I wont disagree that the RRC could do better than a Disco because its not as tall and tipsy. I like the Disco for the ability to stack more stuff in though.

Thanks guys, I found a 1989 LWB for $1,250. Needs a little interior work (seats, carpet, etc) but she's mechanically sound. I'll be picking it up soon then I'll update you all:elkgrin:

89 LWB are you sure about that?

Not really sure, thats what was put in the ad and I really couldn't judge from the pictures. Were the LWB models not offered until a certain year?

If the Rover checks out this week then we will finish the buying process but I really thought this was a LWB model as thats what I was looking for. I'll update you when I see it on Saturday

Yeah, the LWB was first offered in 1993 if memory serves me right. Offered in only a low amount of 1994's and then again in the redesigned interiored 1995's.

Ok, well I was looking mainly for a LWB model but at the same time an 80's RRC. Guess if the 89 doesn't appeal to me I will look for 93-94. Thanks for the help guys

My perfect rangie would be:

early 80's 2 door with the wonky steering wheel, '99 GEMS motor management and heads on a 4.6L top-hat lined block , LT95, ABS brakes from a '91-95, > '91 fuel tank, sunroof lid from > '90, wolf rims with Michelin 7.50's, AEU 2522 CV's with the 110 spindles and HD drive flanges, refurbished interior bits imported from England, SD roll cage, Devon front bumper with recessed Warn 8274 and a highly attractive brunette in the passenger seat.

Thing is, every time I go onto craigslist I'm sorely disappointed.

Set your budget and look for the Rover that seems to need the least work, because even that one is going to give you fits. All of these nuances between year models don't make nearly as much of a difference as starting with a nicer truck that deserves to be built up.

That last bit sounds like good advice for any Rover really. And the first, sounds like a ridiculously nice rig.

Roof panels are bolt on and easy to change. Hard part is finding one without a sunroof this side of the pond. On the other side only the Vogue or higher models had sunroofs. Some early 2 doors had fabric roll back sections in the roof.

That was my point. I have NEVER seen one, short of gray market imports and very very early (read: rusted to bits and basically worthless) US market RRCs. Thats why I made the statement about the delete. Sure, you could unbolt an older models roof panel and replace yours for the sunroof-less roof but where are you going to find one?

That being said, I did find a '92 Hunter for sale and an '83 4 door 3.5/ LT95 RRC for sale that have really piqued my interest.

Heres a question: Why are people so hot for 1995 LWB's? Curious.
