Rock Lights

Has anyone used LED strip lighting? Seems like it would be easy to install as most are able to be cut to length, bright, small enough to not take up a lot of space/be damaged, and waterproof. Seems pretty cheap too!

I've thought about using this under the hood, on the rear lift gate as I don't have any lights in the back of my truck, and underneath. I figure it will cost <$50 for all the LEDs.

I bought some light strip like this a few weeks back to use as rock lighting. I've yet to actually install any of it, but no doubt it's definitely way bright (I've strung the whole strip up a couple times just to use as camp area/cabin lighting, it works awesome for that too).
My only concern as rock lights might be the adhesive backing on it not holding over time in the elements, though I could always (re)stick it using 3M Molding Tape.

The "5630" LED strip is supposed to be brighter than "5050" strip (or so I've read). I haven't compared mine to a 5050 yet.

I have those exact lights on the interior of my truck right now . They are great , very bright , I have them hooked up to a remote with a dimmer .

I can't imagine putting them on the exterior though , not without some sort of protection . They're not waterproof, and the adhesive backing on them is pretty cheap . I already added that 3m tape on the interior ...

They are waterproof (you can buy them waterproof or non, the ones I linked are waterproof). The LEDs are fully encapsulated in a smooth clear rubberized coating.

I installed 10 of the DX 4xLED pods this weekend. Pretty happy with the results just need to see how they hold up. I was surprised to find they even come with double stick tape already installed on the back. Unless these start crapping out I really don't see how you can go wrong for $20 for 20 pods delivered...

I installed LUX lights under my Jeep, 4 blue, 8 white. They are also wired to the interior footwell lights so they click on when a door is opened or I unlock the Jeep.

I have the pods like on the first page. These are underhood, not sure whatever happened to the pics of the truck with 5 pods per side. I like them a lot.

I did some LED strip lighting on my Suburban - http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/148118-LED-Strip-lighting-on-the-vehicle - and was considering adding another under the rear of the vehicle, but didn't think it would be durable or useful enough when dirty / well used, so haven't done anything yet. I've been looking at other 'bullet' style LED lights figuring to place them in some sheltered place underneath. I want 'ground effect' lighting in red, more for my astronomy hobby than anything else.

I've been looking into these lights, or something of a similar design

Looks good but what good are they if they cast shadows around your tires?
