Rode a 1200GS this weekend...

Dre, take a peak at the Tubliss link again, we were both kinda right. It does have a high pressure inner assembly that locks the bead, however the outer just has the normal psi.

However, this wouldn't have solved my problem. I had a simple flat and my tire didn't lose a bead. The search continues.

but I'll say riding on a motorcycle is just awesome, and what a feeling. Sounds dumb but I never really understood...

Two things I tell people who are non riders when I am asked what I like about it are-
1. "I love that I can do 90mph and NOT have to pedal!"
2. "You climb into a mundane appliance and climb out again at the destination, having experienced nothing along the way other than the passage of time and the bland plastic interior of your wheeled refrigerator. I get to taste, breath, smell, and feel the trip. I get to live it."

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
I rode the GS to work today, which was a mistake because I absolutely loved it particularly on the way home.. What a machine if you ask me... Just cruises and I loved it on the highway, so powerful and so smooth... I feel like I am being a pretty reasonable

So that was a mistake as the last place I want to ride is probably on the highway particularly with aggressive SLC traffic... My plan was to get it out of my system because this morning it sucked, but tonight (coming home late, about 8-8:30PM) the roads were smooth and clear and the temps were good and it was a blast.. From this it does have me freaked out to be on the roads... I will say that there is now no doubt in my mind that cell phones should be banned because there were drivers all over the place on their phones and I feel like you really notice it on a bike and it is scary.. Teenagers texting (that was literally part of it) and a lot of other issues that are really scary.. A R 1200GS is a little out of my price range and far on the list of needs and wants so I'll proceed with my XR650R and I think this will do the trick and also encourage me to not have the feeling to take it to work as well.

So I'm still psyched for the XR and I think it should all work out pretty well hopefully.. :)

Nope, right from there on the home page...

Virtually Flat Proof
TUbliss® really is virtually flat proof when used with a tire sealant. Sealants can't work on tubes where holes in the rubber stretch and tear. With TUbliss®, your sealant works directly on the tire where it matters. Plus, the design of TUbliss® helps keep the tire seated on the bead and the sidewalls more stable, virtually making "flat wobbles" a thing of the past. Riders have reported riding longer and harder, completely unaware that they had a tire puncture.

Gotcha, your right that does make sense. I'll have to chat with Vonski about the ones he runs in his desert race bike, seemed there were some trade offs he was concerned with. Weight? Gyration? Tire handling? I think for our needs it would be a home run.

Found this, if it helps.. I'm only about a page in myself but it looks pretty good.. Enough that it might even need its own thread here... :)

Cliff notes seem to say zero problems and works pretty well, may need a little balancing but pretty much most people are into it... (I swear I even read the whole thread)..

Here is a sample. I dunno about 12 psi on the road but 5000 miles is pretty good I feel. The issue is whether a plug would hold up with a serious flat, which I imagine it would/does just fine with what we put our 4WD tires through...

Tubliss: About 5000 miles on my bikes on all road surfaces and I have had no problems. Never tubes again. Now running 12 psi on all road surfaces everyday with my XR650R rippin it. Best aftermarket tire product I've ever bought.

Looks like the options are:

KTM Adventure
Old 1100/1150/1200 GS of some sort
KLR650

.........

Buell should probably be on that list. One of the top purchased bikes for taller dual sport riders.
A few bikes have seat pads for taller riders (raises sitting position a couple inches). Not sure about BMW

What is the Buell option?

Picked up a nearly brand new Joe Rocket ADV style jacket last night which I am excited about for a song... I figure stay on the cheap and work my way up as I figure out what I like and don't, what works and doesn't...

Here is a photo of it off the interwebs...

As i just told another member on this page to not look at Buells, i work for a Harley Davidson shop and i would will tell you, stay away from Buells, just my personal opinion.

I just bought a 07 KLR650 because it was in my budget, i didnt really have a chance to take one on the highway before i bought it. It was kinda a impulse buy because i got the significant other to agree with me buying another bike again. let me tell you, singles suck on the highway but i also cant afford more CCs. I am a KTM rider, raced 450s for some time. If i was to sell my KLR i would be looking at a old 640 Adventure or a new 990 Adventure. Both are 2 diffrent animals but i think i could live with either one. One is awesome on dirt, sucks onroad and the other is heavy offroad and awesome onroad. I guess you cant always have an all around perfect bike, unless you can afford a BMW.

My brother has a 1200.
I was very impressed with it, he has it all setup for overlanding, and has gone on a lot of runs with it out of state since he has had it.

This is from last summer on my vacation.
If I was into bikes, I think that is the one I would go with.

Even if you can afford a BMW, you still won't find a perfect bike.

You just can't get around the fact that what makes a bike good off road, makes it not-so-good on road.
