So, I've used the new stove many times in a variety of situations and I'm happy with it. It certainly isn't as simple as an auto-igniting Propane burner, but it's more fun and unbreakable.

I have been looking at some of the diy rocket stoves as of late.One of concerns has been firing one up on my table.I have 4 dogs that rule the ground level,I have a little wood burner I use instead of my cat stove anymore and one thing I miss about the alcohol is being stuck on the ground.Interesting set up.

The Silverfire has a baffled bottom that actually doesn't get very hot. I suspect you could sit it on a thin piece of pretty much anything to protect your table (if you do not use a Lifetime table like mine). I've been thinking of getting a 1' by 2' square of some kind of fireproof fabric so I can use it wherever I want.
