Trailer Fenders

Thanks, JScherb. I wish Scott, from Dinoot would start selling some fiberglass versions of the flat fender. ;) I might go the round fender route, for now, until I can get the flat ones. I need to get this wrapped up because my trip is coming up next month.

Jenn,

Actually fiberglass wouldn't be the best material to make M416-style fenders... since they're mostly flat surfaces, and since the side lip is only about an inch wide, metal would be stronger than fiberglass for this application. Fiberglass versions of these fenders would be prone to cracking in the corners. Also, in fiberglass they'd end up being more expensive than sheet metal ones - sheet metal ones can be manufactured very inexpensively, there's a lot less labor involved in a sheet metal fender than in a fiberglass one.

If you want the style fender pictured below, you can order them up to 12" in width from Fenders N More: http://www.fendersnmore.com/products/jeep.php

A while back I asked Fenders n More for a quote on a pair of these "Jeep style" fenders, 12" wide, 36" width at the bottom, 20" width at the top, in plain steel, I wanted to see how the price compared to the price I could get the wide M416-style fenders manufactured for. Their quote was $50 each plus shipping.

Thanks, I have tried to get in touch with them via email and phone and they are not responding to messages vie either method, unfortunately. I think I will have to go with the rounded style for now. I have struck out with local fab guys, too. :(

The problem with living in a yuppie area is the lack of folks with skills. Where I grew up (up your way, JScherb) there were lots of guys who could have helped me out with this. Yes, I am starting to sound like Phil & Kay Robertson.

If you lived nearby I'd be happy to knock out a set of wide M416-style fenders for you.

Thanks :)

I will be up that way later this fall to catch one of my nephew's last HS football games (before he becomes an Akron Zip) but will have dealt with the issue and gone and back from my trip to Wyoming by then.
