Monday was huge. Looking back, it was one of the more exciting days of the trip. We woke near the Mary's river and went after the road into jarbige.

Rob mentioned his concern for snow..... again,

Soon after the first patch of snow, we noticed drifts in the road.

We came across this guy in a 2wd Taco. Unfortunately he was stuck.

We managed to get him out and sat down to chat. He was heading to Jarbidge as well, so we decided to put him between the 4wd vehicles in case there were more drifts.

Didn't take long:

Totally impassable without a LOT of digging. In short order we decided to turn around and ponder going into Idaho, to make it to Jarbidge. Rob is like a good luck charm. 1/2 a mile after we turned around:

We came in on the Jarbidge road pretty far north, fairly early. The road crew was coming in from Elko, so we had no Idea they were behind us. We followed the loader up to the snowbank and get an assessment.

The loader operator said it would be 2-3 hours to clear a path, but there was an alternate route that the "Jarbidge People" take before the road opens.

We had seen the little two track before, but were unsure of its final destination. It did not show up in the Nevada Map Atlas, or the Gazeteer. That little local advise is always good.

On the bypass I took a photo of the snow bank that stopped us:

Finally, Bear Creek Summit elv. 8602

The dog belongs to the guy that was unstuck.

The "Alternate" road we came in on was fairly challenging for the 2wd. I seem to remember the guy uttering something about not wanting to do that ever again. He was a good sport and we managed to get him to Jarbidge albeit an hour late.

Jarbidge, finally.

The guy insisted to buy us lunch for our trouble, so we all sat and had a good laugh. The digi camera was full, so I was able to upload a bunch of photos during lunch.

Loving it!!! The long cold & snowy spring kept our plans to off-road tour the general Jarbidge area in late April, apart of our annual spring trip, from coming to fruition. But hopefully this area will be back in our sights for next spring.

There's just something about touring the high country when there's still a little snow here and there and the flowers are in full bloom!

Jarbidge Roads

Spressoman, was wondering if you have taken the road that goes over the ridge to the west of jarbidge. It starts at the top of the pass on the main road from the south, and goes over the ridge directly above jarbidge, then drops down to the bruneau river. We didn't exit that way this time out of concern for snow, but right now it should be clear, and is generally spectacular for flowers right about now...though there are so many of them the sweet smell from them can actually get overwhelming. If you are in the area in the next few weeks, I truly recommend it.

Thanks for the great report! My buddies and I have scouted those trails from the air and have been trying to coordinate a trip to Jarbidge via either 4x4 or motorcycles. Your pics are amazing! I want to go NOW!

Nope. But this area is on my/our list to explore. Been all over other parts of Nevada but not NE yet.

Great trip and pics, wish I was there. I haven't been up there for years and like Spressomon, we keep trying to get the time set up. Next year, next year...

p.s. Spresso and I got to brush up on our snow drift navigation this spring in our high country tour.

More pics to come... was lazy last night.

Fall can be pretty sweet as well, especially when the small aspen stands Aspens turn...

An ideal adventure, exactly what this forum is all about.

Tremendous pictures and write-up. I really enjoyed this trip. Nevada's wide open spaces remind me a lot of Wyoming. I should plan to spend some time there.

Awesome trip, great job documenting. :clapsmile

After a little stop in Jarbidge, we made our way to Wildhorse Reservoir:

After a fuel up, and a quick break, we headed back north. This was another section of Pavement, 15 miles or so IIRC. We turned west and drove into the Owyhee Desert:

I took my girl out to look for rabbits!

The sky was starting to get a little hazy, made for a good sunset though.
