Option B, you are good. I really want to go with either a Q-78 or 35-10.5 on my 40 but with a 4" lift the track definitely becomes an issue. I guess I could just cut down on the high speed cornering. :D

I actually looked at that rig a couple of times, good looking truck! It hasn't been there for a while so he must have sold it. Whenever I am out in that general area on the backroads I am always hoping to see some cruiser stashed away in a barn long forgotten.

You could also always go with the 255/85, which is what I would do if I had some 16" rims laying around. Those would be pretty close to the Q-78's-

That size is awesome on a fj-40, I had a set on my LR to mimic the diameter of 7.50-16s. 235-85-16s, they worked really well in that regard yet rode far better because the BFGs were load range C rather than D or E. Later I gave them to my brother for his FJ40 and they completely made the vehicle IMHO- it looked far better than the stock 700 15s or 6.50- 15s/235-75-15s.

Awesome rig!

To be honest, I think the 235/85's are probably a safer bet since they will be more readily available and they are less than 1/2" difference from the 33x9.5's. I had the 15" rims so I went this route since it made financial sense instead spending another few hundred on some 16" rims. Stock 16" cruiser rims + blast + powder - starts adding up fast, those stock rims are not cheap and tough to find used.

That was exactly why I went with those tires initially- I needed the extra clearance and a "rubber overdrive". BUT I had 16 good 15" rims and no 16" rims. Thus I paid $110 apiece for the tires rather than $125 or so per tire AND $85 per wheel for 235-85-16s. Later I swapped around and got a set of 7.50 16s for my Land Rover so the 33-9.50s were just put in storage, later my brother acquired them from me.

They really do look a lot better. I wish I could find him a set of 16" rims though to expand the possibilities and help make things interchangeable(to a degree) between our trucks.

The only probelm I ever had with those tires was- well offroading... I still remember the first night I got them installed and went right away to go offroading in a state forest, I think I got 75 yds down the trail before I got stuck in the mud. From then forward I called them BFG No terrains. ;)
