Water storage

I am looking to build a type of kitchen storage for the side window of my truck. Near the back side of the truck I was thinking of installing a water container. My thought was using a reliant jug and adding a spigot at the end of a hose so it hangs down and gives water on demand. I am having trouble finding a working spigot to work with the Reliant water container. Also since I am custom building this I want something that last and not sure the Reliants are that well built. Is there a better 5-7 gallon water container that can easily be outfitted with a spigot? Link is of the container I have now.

Replace the plastic spout with a brass one with a threaded nozzle. Or you can get a Scepter water can and drill out and fit a water bib . The top is big enough to fit hand inside.

Thanks for those. I was planning on mounting the water container horizontally but your suggestions let me mount it vertically, leaving room for more stuff in my window storage. Have you seen either of those? The front runner looks nice as it comes plumbed ready to go. At least in pictures, the Scepter looks more robust.

I use this setup as the hose bib can be removed if required and not really have much impact on the can lid.525584

Here are several ways to use a Scepter MWC. Buy direct, or you can probably get some ideas from their designs. I've ordered a few parts from them without any problems.

That siphon looks like a nice setup and could be used for my current jug. I see a specter on Amazon for $55, the company you linked sells it for $165 with aluminum flange. Besides the flange is there a difference?

Have I seen either of those I own the front runner tank and I made the Scepter one that I posted the pictures of.

Scepter military cans
MWC = Military Water Canister
MFC = Military Fuel Canister

There are two types of Scepter military cans. MWCs can be sold in the U.S., and have some different design features than the MFC. An MWC shouldn't be used in place of an MFC, in case you were considering giving that a try. A new MFC for sale in the U.S. is rare due to the spout & can not being CARB compliant, so if you do find one, they're expensive. If you're ever in Canada, you can buy new MFCs and MFC accessories at more reasonable prices. I like MFCs & MWCs because they're about as durable a can as you can get, but there are other options.

LCI and Skilcraft make similar canisters. Scepter also makes lighter weight civilian cans, so make sure you're getting what you pay for. Scepter military cans are very durable, but there are good metal fuel cans available in the U.S. that are CARB compliant.

Can you suggest a link to a good Scepter? I want to make sure I get the military version.

Is this the real deal?

Possibly.

I think Lexington Container Company is a reliable source for Scepter MWCs. I've never needed a water can wrench, but some people like them. Otoh, a fuel can wrench is highly recommended for MFCs due to the pressure that can build up.

They sell steel fuel cans, too.

Make sure they say LCI on them it is actually molded into the can itself. If it does then it is true LCI military water container. Scepter makes civilian water cans also Military and Civilian fuel cans.
Buy the genuine item direct from LCI.

I have 8 of them and they have been beat up knocked around and tossed in the back of the truck so many times and never a leak or problem. Just hand tighten the lids no wrenching to tightened. That is how they get screwed up, It is a complex seal of flat and tapered surfaces.

Thanks. I wasn't going to do the Bug's shopping for him. LCC was the first decent source the googler pulled up. : )

cool

I've never heard of anyone regretting purchasing MWCs. Like HH said, they can take considerable abuse without a problem. As long as you keep from cross-threading the cap, they'll last forever. If you ever need parts, they're easy to get, too.
