We spent a hopeful Friday evening watching this:

Saturday morning looked good, dark clouds filled the sky and it was just barely into the 80s by the time we headed out. I was hoping for a good rain on our hike, since there is no shade to be found in the local hills. I'd never checked out Camp Beale before so we headed up to the loop trail.

We only made it about 20 minutes in before we realized we'd been had. Photoman and his gang of stormbandits had stolen our rain!:D We retreated to the air conditioned safety of our "loanerlander", grateful to have escaped the 115* heat and 90% humidity with our lives, and watched our beloved storm heading south...

Plan B

My favorite type of exploration goes something like this: "Well, we have a full tank of gas. Let's go that way!" Armed with ice cold mango smoothies we headed northeast, determined to stop at every single historical marker along the side of Highway 93 (there are lots of 'em). On arrival at the third one we decided to check out the tiny community of Chloride, AZ. We ended up spending the rest of the afternoon looking at all the old buildings, interesting yard art, odd fences, and learning a bit about the history of the town from the general store's owner over a cold root beer.

We took an easy track the long way home for some uberthin seared steak and a bottle of red vino.

Better late than never. ;)

This will probably amaze Aaron, but it's only been a week and I've got some pics to post. Unfortunately my pics of the 2 rattlesnakes didn't come out too well as I was trying to get a close up with my 50mm and wasn't "focusing" too much on the focus.

While searching for the ruins and following every mt. goat trail possible, I came to this dead end with a great view. You can't tell from the pic, but there is a 150 ft drop just beyond this cactus with a view. Years ago, some bird sat here taking it all in while...spreading some seeds for Mother Nature.

Caught this little guy on the way back down to meet up with Aaron and Chris. He was good enough to sit still for a few pics.

1st post here for me on the site as I am new. This is from the run that safado, articulate, photoman & myself did. I didn't get any shots in the canyon that I really cared for but here are a few that I think turned out decent.

Parker Canyon overlooking Roosevelt Lake.
