Update:

I took FunRover's advice and went to Maxair. They charged up my AC and found a leak around the compressor shaft - no surprise. It blows nice and cold now, but who knows how long it will stay full. if anyone has an extra for AC compressor unit in good shape, let me know!

I also got a few things in the mail recently! My flares are on, and look great!

I also got my rear bumper in (obviously). I have a few issues with it, but I want to see if those get resolved before I talk too much about it.

Lastly I found this gem on CL for $160, new in the box! Hooked it up and it works great! Won't quite run my BIG microwave, I may have to find a smaller one.

Massive interior work weekend! I am leaving next week for Moab - so I figured I better have a comfy place to stay!

Taking pictures inside of a van is a real pain in the butt, by the way.. I will try and get some better ones later. First and foremost - got my spare mounted up, looking strong.

Next up I installed the ex-sportsmobile cabinets I picked up on craigslist. The 'wardrobe' took some work. I installed adjustable shelving in it to make it a pantry, and had to cover the back so my goods wouldn't roll out the back!

In the rear, I have a permanent 5.5' wide x 4' deep platform. Then, there are 2 hinged boxes which are 2' long over each fender. I made the center section removable, and when it is in place I have a 5.5' x 6' deep sleeping platform. The removable section attaches to a multi-piece stand and becomes a dinette.

I covered the whole shoot-and-match with indoor/outdoor grey carpet and wrapped the edges in aluminum trim. I think it came out pretty snazzy! My mom is upholstering my 3 piece mattress set this week. They are made out of 3" thick foam, plus I will have a nice 'pillow top' roll out pad. It's going to be nicer than my bed at home!

Happy Vaning!

I will try and get some better pics for you, it really is pretty roomy. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of room to roll around back there. And there is plenty of space for 3 people (or 4 if you bring in an end chair) to use the little dinette.

This is quite possibly the coolest Van build yet! :) LOVE IT!!!!!!

Thanks!!

Looking good!

Thanks HT! Got a LOT of work to do this weekend before the trip next week!

WOW your interior build is amazing! I'm bookmarking this to read more into how you secured everything to the walls.

Thanks!

It was a busy weekend - trying to get lots of odds and ends buttoned up before the Moab trip this week. As usual, ya never seem to get done as many projects as you would hope.

I only snapped a few pics, but will get more over the next few days. It was sort of rainy and crappy all weekend.

My GF and I went shopping, hit up Bed Bath and Beyond, Bestbuy, and REI. We got a ton of gear to start filling the van with random things. Utensils, dividers, mixing bowls, the whole lot. I also got a new Sony headunit (iPod and USB connections on the front, and an aux port on the back), a "open box" 19" Samsung HDTV, sunshower, more water storage... the list goes on.

We had several discussions about where to mount the TV (we like to watch movies before we go to sleep), and the best we came up with was on the pantry door. Leaving he base on the TV, we can set it up where ever we want, but we can watch from the bed with the door open, or sitting around in the van with the door closed. I already had a spare Samsung Blu-ray play laying around so that went into the van, too. I grabbed a 12' long component - to - aux connection cable and ran the sound from the DVD player to the back of the new head unit. It isn't exactly Surround Sound, but it sure is nicer than the crappy TV speakers!

Also picked up the hitch extender for the MC rack (14"). I still need to cinch it up tight, and I will probably run a few straps up to the bumper uprights to minimize sway as much as possible.

More pics later!

i have what looks like the same carrier, ive made many mods to it but i recently took it from a single reciever to a 3 point. that sucker doesnt move anymore and i feel much safer straping the bike to outboard points vs to the center. im making a sweet mod to my aluminess swing out as well so i dont have to extend the carrier--wanted to avoid that for exit angle. i just picked up my metal form Den-col this afternoon for that. slowly getting my spring projects done as well

edit--oh yeah--i made provisions to carry my real ramp as well since the supplied ramp sucks and my wifes bike goes inside the van

I had a box of goodies come in yesterday! I ordered a 6 switch panel and a 12 circuit bus bar from these guys:

https://otrattw.com/

Transaction went well - they had an issue with some of my switch plates and let me know right away they may ship later than expected. When I told them I was headed to Moab, they sent me the switches with temporary plates so I could get them in before the trip. I will update with pics when the new covers get here.

Here is a pic of the test fit (switches are upside down) - thanks Econoline for making such a nice big flat mounting surface!! I did have to pull out the plasma and remove a little material behind the plastic dash cover. I love that damn tool!

IMAG0019.jpg

And the fuse panel - this will live in the cabinet with the inverter, 12 is a lot of circuits, but it gives me room to grow! It came with a nice clear plastic cover as well.

IMAG0022.jpg

And a quick snap of the new Sony head unit, for $90 I am thrilled with the functionality and quality (over stock, of course)!

IMG00216-20120416-1331.jpg

And I took one last stab at finding this obnoxious leak before the trip. I think I have found the culprit! Remember back in post #14, when I asked what the actuator cable was for?

IMG02110-20110821-1139.jpg

Well, take a look at this....

IMG00220-20120416-1829.jpg

It appears that the water drain from the fuel bowl has been slightly open since I bought the van!! GAH! I don't feel too bad since the Ford tech missed it too....

This is what it looks like when the valve is all the way closed. And yes, I confirmed that it was cocked open and that the cable works... I'm hoping once I get home tonight I will not have my usual 2 puddles!
