2005 Grand Cherokee

Ok, I was going to wait till I picked it up but I am so excited I am going to post now. I had a 2006 Lexus IS250 I was trying to sell or trade to get a vehicle better suited for family travel and back road camping/exploring. I sold my Lexus last Sunday and as soon as I got home went and checked out the WK I wanted to buy. I will be picking it up in the next couple of days, the current owner is on my local jeep club and needed it a couple more days because his 3 month old had to have heart surgery yesterday. It is a 2005 Grand Cherokee. It has just under 97,000 miles. While I wanted a Hemi I went with this one with the V6 because it has a lot of things I want to do already done and I honestly don't need the Hemi though it would have been nice. It already has a 2 inch daystar lift, Surco roof rack with shovel/axe mount on one side and hi-lift jack mount on the other. It has two lights rear facing on the rack, Borla exhaust, hypertech programmer, ARB on-board air compressor and tank with air fittings mounted in the front and rear bumper, and 2010 Rubicon wheels.

I plan to get a laptop stand to mount my Panasonic Toughbook. I have a MR350P GPS puck I will use with my laptop for navigation and trip planning. I plan to get a Tuffy center console with radio din to mount my uniden 996XT scanner. I will also be installing a HAM radio once I get it, I am currently going through a HAM class and will be testing next month. Not sure how I am going to mount it yet. I have not decided if I am going to build a drawer system or a smaller cabinet on one side for storage. I will also be adding lighting on each side and front. I am sure there will be more than that but that is what I have in mind right now.

I decided on the WK Grand Cherokee because it will be comfortable enough for our road trips to visit family and capable enough to do some mild off roading and exploring. Pictures coming soon!

Let's see some pictures when you get it. You don't see very many modified WK Jeeps out there but they are very capable off road.

Ok, I picked it up today! The guy I got it from threw in the hi-lift, shovel, and axe as well.

Sorry for the crummy cell phone pictures. I will take batter ones later.

Built, not bought!
Looking good dude!! I love my WK. Best of both worlds, off road ability and road manners!! Where do you have your spare with the air tank in the stock spare location?

Thanks! It is just sitting the the cargo area right now. I am ether going to order the spare tire carrier for my rack or build a swing out that attaches to the receiver hitch. The more I look into it the more I want to build the swing out.

Try looking into Detours USA they make some pretty trick swing aways and swing downs to attach to hitches. Looking into getting on for my XJ to get it out of the cargo space as well.

I like those too. I am likely going to build my own, if I do that I can do it for about half the cost. I like the swing out better than down because it gets the tire out of the way if I need to get stuff from the cargo area so I will for sure go with a swing out.

I made a cardboard mock up of some cabinets. This is what I have at this point. The only thing I left out is a middle divider on top and bottom. These would be used to store jumper cables, snatch block, snatch strap, tire repair kits, etc. Not sure what I am going to use to latch it yet. I will cover it in carpet to match the factory carpeting. I am building it narrow enough and sort enough to still access the factory cargo hole in the middle and the smaller one that are against the rear seats. I still have not decided if I am going to use something as a backing on it or just let the stock panel be the back for it.

I did get a sound clip of the exhaust I will try to get uploaded in a little bit. I looked around under there while I was doing the other stuff today. It looks like a Borla catback with the stock rear tail pipe section attached to it. It has a nice throaty sound but not to loud.
