Very nice tread, kudos for the "simple living" philosophy.
I do share some of your notions about using the car as a tent and have severely limited myself in spending on the current vehicle, basically because I`ve done several "spend the dough" builds where I go into an "optimization" phase and basically hoards stuff I think I need. For now, I have a self-imposed limit as to whats acceptable, iow keeping the car mechanically sound, do some rolling restaration work and use whatever stuff I already have laying about to use the vehicle to go places with a bit more nightly comforts than tenting.
I had an average of about 100 nights per year, in basic tents for 23 years up to 2010, and found that I would appreciate more comfortable living conditions in the future if I should keep roaming around on my own dime.

How many miles on the truck when you bought it?
How many miles have you put on it?

Camping in a tent in the rain really sucks. Being high and dry really is nice.

I like it. Wish I could sell everything and do it myself.............sorta.

my version
I think myself I am kind of in the middle here want to build something from a small 10 ft penski type box truck want to probably paint it a nice white and add a few windows but with metal covers that can be secured when parked at walmart or the casino,s down in mexico but then opened when camping in rvparks or state parks.Want to make it look nice enough on the outside so it will b accepted in fancyer gated parks down south like souther cali or nevada.Want to mayby even fabricate a tip out for it.Even add an awning want it to just kind of confuse people so they dont exactly know if it is a plain old fancy box truck or a custom motorhome.I posted my picks on the other thread you started so wont put any here....mayby that thread should be moved over here cause it is kind of a ongoing idea build type thread.Den

I have read a lot of build threads, I have helped many people set up rigs to go exploring with, I have done many mods on my unit. Looking at yours cuts through all the garbage and puts it back to the basic - you get a unit and enjoy it. Many happy and safe travels, looks like you are well on your way!!
They. Arested acouple in Indiana for driving across country letting the 7 kids sleep in the front parts a truck just like your except they we moving so all. There stuff was in the back to.

Thank you my friend. I must admit that the older I get (well over 60), the more I like simplicity and ease. My old mind tells me to not spend my life planning or building, but doing.
But, let me be honest, this truck design was do in large part to budget, available place to work, and tools. But truthfully, after 3 years living in my old truck, I wouldn't change a thing. I don't need to find electricity, because I don't have service in the truck. I have a 25ft. extension cord if electricity presents itself. I don't need to find water or sewer hook-ups because I don't have these services. I can park anywhere. I use gallon jugs for water, 5-gallon bucket for a toilet and an LED headlamp for light. As I have said, just like backpacking, only with a gas stove and a lovely queen size bed.
I know this approach would not work for most people, but at this point in my life it's heavenly.

I am travelling alone, so it's not possible for me to ride in the back and drive. *grin*
BUT, I have to say that the government has too damn many so called "laws" and I have no problem breaking the silly, useless ones at times...

I also like that I don't have to worry about anyone seeing my kayak from the outside. I never have to worry about locking or protecting it when I leave the truck.
