i plan on putting the box(camper converted) ontop of the flat bed.... but i was curious if there was a way to make a pass through from the cab to the box that coud detach when i take off the box to use it as a flat bed?

any example of a pass through on here? i looked but cant find any..doesnt have to be strictly fuso...

thanks in advance!

If you intend to remove the camper box then you will also need a "plug" to go into the pass-thru hole in the cab. It would be somewhat drafty otherwise. ;)

Do you really NEED a pass-thru? I ask because having one complicates things quite a bit.
Sure, having a pass-thru allows access between the camper and cab but on the down side it gives you one less wall in the camper, which means you have less layout options.
If I said that having a pass-thru was totally unnecessary I would be a bit hypocritical, given that I have one. All I am saying is that unless you have a specific need for one, in our case it's our dog, then I would question putting one in.

The way that ATW do the pass-thru in their builds would allow for what you want to do. You can also utilize the cab section that you remove as the plug, which includes the rear window.
Below are a couple of images of my truck, which show what I am talking about.

Very valid point......I guess for right now I don't "need" one....but I know in the future when I tohave a bigger dog I will need one...I don't think my ****zu or pug really demand a passthrough right now LOL.

But that design is bad ***....that's how I was thinking about doing mine.... I would just have to change the flat bed to accept that.

I have several questions regarding the boot connection between the cab and camper.

Does the rubber boot connect/disconnect require tools or are hand latched type clamps used?

Is the connect/disconnect made from within the cab or camper?

I can see a pass though as being a double edged sword. While it'll give you the ability to climb between the cab and camper for convenience and security. Won't it also give someone access to the camper should they break into the cab?

With the cab tilted forward, both the cab and camper are open to the elements. How problematic is this when working on the vehicle's engine in less than ideal conditions?

I can only speak of the pass-thru that I have, that was done by ATW, but here are answers to your questions as they apply to me.

Does the rubber boot connect/disconnect require tools or are hand latched type clamps used?
The connection between the pass-thru boot and the cab is made using stainless steel over centre clamps. No tools are required to disconnect the pass-thru.

Is the connect/disconnect made from within the cab or camper?
Either.

Won't it also give someone access to the camper should they break into the cab?
Yes, by default it will.
My intent is to add a panel of some description on the inside of the camper that will allow me to secure the camper. This will also aid in preventing heat loss from the camper into the cab.
I have not started my camper build as yet, so I have no definitive designs to share at this time. Sorry...

How problematic is this when working on the vehicle's engine in less than ideal conditions?
Basically, you have a big hole in both the camper and the cab when the cab is tilted. Placing a tarp over both sections would be the simple option for preventing water/snow/dust entering either the camper or cab.

Below is a picture of a pass-thru I took a while back in one of the ATW buses that was up for sale in Sydney. It shows the over centre clamps used to secure the boot to the cab.

WOW that sure is a professional set-up for the connecting boot.
But of course it is from ATW and that is their normal 'professional'.
Thanks for sharing the photo

A couple of more cab-to-cabin pass though questions.

Does having one increase the noise level within the cab while driving?

What about the rattling of the camper contents, does it drive one nuts?

Just cut an inner tube from a tractor tire, otherwise just toss stuff out the driver's side window and catch it out the side window of the camper, that works.
