Autoblog Article Regarding Wrangler Diesel

Awesome!

My only wish is they bring it sooner, in the JK.
I'm thinking of a limited run, like the 10th Anniversary for the 2015 model year, so something.

I'm also very interested to see which engine/trans they go with. I think a standard is a must in the Wrangler, and I'm not sure it needs all the grunt of the 3.0. Maybe a 2.8 or even 2.4 would be enough.

Time will tell.

Remember that a 2015 model will come out in 2014. ;)

A diesel Wrangler will likely put me back behind the wheel of a Jeep again. I'm looking forward to it.

Allpar and a few others have said a few times the Wrangler re-design has been pushed back to 2016 (2017 model year).

MoparNorm, who seems to know his stuff, said:

From Chrysler. It's on Allpar.com.
They were going to do it earlier, but moved it back.
YJ and TJ lasted about 10 years, JK will be about the same, maybe a year later.
The Wrangler assembly line is being upgraded and expanded and component "packaging" for Federal crash standards makes the current engine bay too small for some of the power plants they may want to use. It's unlikely they would spend hundreds of millions to change the engine bay, when they can wait for the total redesign and spend that R&D money once.

That just doesn't make sense to add it to the end of the JK's life because 1. they would have to spend all of that extra money on crash testing/EPA BS and 2. It would hurt the re-sale value of the 3.6's.

They already produce a diesel wrangler.... or am I missing something? The r/d is done. The vehicle exists.

Likely it has never passed US crash testing or emissions.

My understanding is the latest version of the 2.8, since 2011, is more-or-less identical to the new V6 3.0 in the GC, so it should pass the same emissions without too much hassle.

It's just a question of cost for the actual testing.

How will this engine handle diesels from around the world? Diesel in the US can be very different from diesel in Peru.
