I'd be shocked if Toyota went with a Cummins Diesel instead of one of their own.
You've got to think with the new Euro emissions coming in they've got engines that meet the US standards.

The fact is that Toyota and Nissan don't sell enough half ton trucks to justify the expense of bringing their own diesel to market. If the "take rate" of diesel is 10% and you only sell 70,000 trucks per year, that means they'll sell only 7,000 as diesels. Divide the multi-million dollar expense by only 7,000 units and it simply doesn't make financial sense.
If more people were willing to buy diesels then the business case gets stronger. Right now the demand isn't there.
What about the 32V diesel V8 that Toyota uses in Australia? This should fit the Tacoma / Tundra, right? Or the 3L diesel sold in the HiLux?
I predict that we will never get a diesel Tacoma in the US, but I hope that I'm wrong. At this point it is the only thing I can see that would make me consider a new truck. Especially considering the cost of trucks these day and my '05 being paid off. A diesel Tacoma is the only thing that could come to market that would make me say "Yeah, that's worth $500 a month".
As you surely know, the engine was designed exclusively for Chrysler for the Ram 1500. Was supposed to launch in 2013, but when Chrysler went bankrupt, the contract with Cummins was ripped up. Cummins has been looking for buyers ever since.cummins didnt build this engine just for nissan
i also work for cummins but drive a yota lol
