Wow.. Just came back from the dealership....

Just came back from the dealership to get a feel for them... $29,989 for a 2013 Tacoma 2wd with 40k miles.. Ok let me look at the 4x4, 30,299 for a 2011 45k. 2010 2wd 30kmiles $28,978...

Seemed kinda high let me look at the iforce 2010 tundra on "clearance pricing". $50,451 with 29k miles... $62k new?

I was expecting $25k range but Jesus these are higher than I remember MSRP on these things... I thought they were $32k off the truck new? Is this what I'm to expect for a Tacoma? I mean these things are nice and really clean, the tundra crew cap back seat was beautiful but way to $$ and big for anything I'd use.. But $35k when done for a 209/2010/2013 Tacoma? Isn't that kinda steep? One was a trd the other 2 weren't? I don't know my dealer didn't seem to know much about them aside from which were TRD/Sr5 and 4x4 after reading the window tag.


This was from a Toyota dealership dealership.. Any suggestions? I swore I saw some 2010's around the $22k range last weekend I looked.. And 08's for $18,900... Do I have to find a POS to get a Tacoma at these prices?

Well, you live in OC right? Lotsa money in that part of the country so prices are high.

I'd say expand your search to other geographic areas or look for a private sale.

Thing is, there are probably people who would pay those prices so the dealer may not be willing to negotiate much. Could be worth it to cross-shop other brands just to get a "reality check."

There seems to be something of a "feeding frenzy" around Toyota 4x4s, that drives prices up to exorbitant levels.

People see the high prices and naturally "assume" that Toyota is better than everyone else, so they pay higher prices, which means that dealers will continue to demand higher prices because they can, and consumers will continue to pay those higher prices because the higher price gives them the feeling that they're getting "more."

It's a vicious circle.

However, like all bubbles, sooner or later this one will burst.

I work at a Toyota dealer in Oregon and the prices for a used Tacoma are about the same here. I shake my head when I look at the used prices, too. Frankly, it makes more sense to buy new. That said we have 3 new Tacomas in stock at the moment as there is a shortage of these vehicles; supply and demand perhaps.

Sounds about right. These Toyotas hold thier value like nothing I've ever seen. I'm trying to buy a 2011/12 T4R TE. Cant find any with low miles and under 30k that is reasonably close to me in distance.

I know a lady here in Texas that bought A brand new Taco 4x2 for $24,000. Looks good too. 4 cylinder. Maybe shop around the country. This was at a Toyota dealership in Beaumont, TX.

Yea the dealership had a total of 4 Tacoma's and 2 titans on the entire lot.... I asked the dealer about negotiation and even his face was like sadly no, apparently they can't cause even at those prices they still sell, obviously with the lack of supply they had. Just sucks cause it smashed my dreams of my search last week that showed several at $20k - $25k used for 08-13 but now all I see is $30k. The fact they had a total of 6 trucks in the lot was disheartening as well.

But ever since I've been shopping I don't think I've left my house with out seeing at least 4 Tacoma's on my way to where ever I'm going. So the supply in demand makes sense.


As for shopping out of state, that's funny because my friend actually just told me to go to Washington and buy one up there to avoid sales tax of about $6k for CA dealerships/CA state taxes. Not sure of the limitations or restrictions but hell that seems tempting now.


On a good note I did sit and check out the tundra Iforce crew crew cab. The Tacoma had good comfortable leg room for my 6' self even with the front seats all the way back, but the tundra.. Was like a dam hotel room on wheels. I don't think I've ever seen so much space in a truck.

Seeing that here in TN as well. 1-3 year old trucks for nearly price of new. In fact, I'm seeing 2012/2013 TE's listed for about same as new MSRP. New 2014's are being listed for 4-6K above MSRP here in TN.

I might just sell my 2010 Tacoma and make a few $$$.

I bought my 2005 Frontier Nismo for 16k, four years later, sold it for 14k. Import trucks hold their value very well. Perhaps check out the next state over, just be mindful of transfer fines.

Used car values in general have gone stupid over the last few years.
I bought an 06 f150 crew cab five years and checked kbb value periodically and the value kept increasing over a couple years.

The cash for clunkers scam started it all, that's when used car prices skyrocketed initially.

I agree though, just go buy a new Toyota if you want one. Used prices are insane on them.

the dealer (who has also performed all the services) has offered to buy it back outright when the time comes even though he knows I'm not buying another Toyota. I think he'd offer me something of a wholesale price. I don't want to involve it in a trade-in for the new van, but I cannot stand dealing with buyers.

"hey; there's blueberry muffin crumbs unda the seat! you gotta knock-off a couple a'hundred for that stuff...." and at that point I'd rather take a wholesale check just to make it go away. we'll see next march/ april.

I've got a 2012 Silver TE w/KDSS and some modifications I'll sell you. And only 25K freeway miles on it too; oil changed every 5k.
