Alternative to the Gr8tops LJ Safari Top?

Yep.. Gr8tops is about the only Safari top supplier, I mean I kind of like the WildBoar system.. But as I said in one of my other post.. If one was to convert the Freedom hard top off a JK (for me at least) into a mini top.. But a thought came to mind.. You know those van conversion companies.. where they add on the taller more aerodynamic top.. I would if they would be willing to handle the challenge.. but then again.. there always room to flip a fiberglass boat upside down and retrofit something out of it..

WHAT DOES IT ACCOMPLISH FOR THE jeep

I really don't get what this accomplishes for the jeep> is there little more head room? better mileage an inside sleeping platform. I think a ursa minor has more benefits, true it cost more . But am I missing something?

Not so much a fan of the full safari type top.. but I have seen some with windows and ports to store things the about the design.. Some could use a bit better thought in the design.. I think the main reason I'm just needed the 2 panels.. is so we can actually remove that section if need be.. the Bestop bikini was a pain to put on and remove.. This is one Reason I like the Wildboar setup.. it has a "t" top option.

Like most things on jeeps, it is about the looks :D Plus, the back windows are functional(slide), and the top was designed by a member of the forum.

Ursa Minor makes a poptop for sleeping in/on a JKU - I assume you have a LJ series Jeep? Nothing from them for an LJ...

You mean like just have the freedom panels installed without the rest of the top like this?

There is no back window, but who needs them when you are running a bikini top anyways?

Correct.. However you're miss a few key elements.. No rear seat and the wraparound Windjammer along with the Duster.. But again I'd prefer to have the mini hard top extend out past the speaker bar (small extended cab) then down into the cargo area.. thus getting rid of the duster cover. This would mean having to cut/splice a 2 or 4 door hard top to mesh together.

Is that the design Jsherb(sp?) made?
Yes.

Yes, there is more head room, but that's only one of the features of the Safari Cab. The Safari Cab hardtop is modular, so the side panels are removable; on mine the hard sides can be swapped for roll-up soft sides. It's also got a full rear "barn door" for easy access to the cargo area, and also mine has integrated roof rack support, designed to carry heavy weights on top, like a roof-top tent without the need for one of those "exocage" roof rack systems.

Here is the original. I think it is awesome, but $4100 for the top and another $600 for the install that is required? A little ridiculous. Anyone know of anything else that is maybe, I don't know, half that?

I designed the Safari Cab hardtop to have all of the features above and built mine with those features. After I built mine, Gr8Tops licensed it from me for production. I had nothing to do with how they priced it, sorry.
