I spent most of my day yesterday surfing for the best deals I could get on assorted tire purchases.
Went with three different site due to price and availability. TiresByWeb.com, Onlinetires.com, and discounttiredirect.com.
And still had to go with a 4th site for the lug nuts I wanted. The 'discount' site only sold spline nuts. I don't do spline lug nuts; I had a bad experience in the past and that is all I'm going to say about that.
TireByWeb.com had the snow tires I was looking for in stock and a decent price on rims plus "free" shipping along with a small fee for mounting and balancing.
Onlinetires.com had the all-season run flat model I was looking for to go on our subaru and 37" cooper discoverer STT for my jeep in stock. Cooper must have a deal going on now 'cause every site I was on had 'free' shipping. The all-seasons tires cost me $70 shipping. They did not have the tires I wanted for my F350 nor any rims that fit.
Dicounttiredirect.com said they had the Cooper STT Maxx and rims for my F350 in stock with a $90 total off and 'free' mounting, balancing, and shipping. I got an email a few hours later telling me to call in there was a problem. I thought it may have been by CC 'cause spending that kind of money on tires in the same hour was unusual activity for me. Turns out the STT max in a 305/70 R18 is on back order, possible 30 days or longer. Not a big deal for me because I'm away from home working for the next while. The sale price is locked in so I don't mind waiting. We'll see how long the back order actually takes.
The morale of the story here is do your shopping/homework to find the best deals at the time. I have bought tire/rims online in the past but always know the usual price range for the tires and do not pay full price on shipping. With larger tires to my address it can be in $200 or more... Catching them on sale is about the only way buying tires online is cheaper than going to your local store.
