Do not fear a little rust. It builds character. A can of break away and patience is all you need. If that doesn't do it you'll get good at drilling them out. I treat it like a boat. Any time I have a chance, I paint stuff. I've spent hours with a paintbrush under my truck. I try and log some paint time at least once a year. It is never ending. I redid brake lines a few years ago as those were all toast. Fuel lines are next, hopefully maybe this winter. The Montero has a lot of heavier gauge steel underneath on brackets and stuff. I haven't lost anything major yet, biggest thing was those brake disc shield things, I lost one of those to rust. Otherwise most of what I see under my truck looks rusty but really will take a long time yet before it gets bad. Paint, paint, and more paint.
