Fire Pan for Restricted Areas. What do you use?

One thing I forgot to mention regarding Washing-machine tubs and other such large fire containers: Yes, they are large, but that actually means you can transport a large bundle of fire wood inside them, which is a nice space-saving feature.

(I still don't have room for one in my rig, though)

I agree that they are nice to fill with wood. Still wish they were a little bit smaller to fit my needs

Right there with you. I occasionally monitor craigslist as I sometimes see smaller drums from front-loaders for sale...

You mentioned the dryer bin, so cool in use. My wife and I do an annual campout with a large group and even when there are no "bans" we use the bin. We put it on top of the camp's fire ring/grate and elevates it to a fun height for all to enjoy.

We use one of two devices for campfire ambiance.
1) The IKEA Kitchen Utensil bin as a DIY pellet fire, or
2) Stovetec Firefly Lantern.

One thing we ran into in our typical soggy forests we frequent (our choice, not a complaint) is a general lack of usable firewood. We decided to give the pellets as-fuel-source a go and find it clean and convenient.

I think if I had to do something maybe with a small group (like when we get together with our adult kids now and again) we might think about trying something like this little ~14" pellet fire pit I found at Home Depot. Looks cool too.

Haven't built it yet but a friend came up with the idea of a small fire pan/bowl that will slip over your spare tire.

I have the NRS firepan with lid. Heavy beast but bomber strong and a really nice set-up for both fires and grilling. Able to store camp ax and some dutch oven tools in the pan for transport.

Used it on a recent 5 day trip down the Green River.

Check out the volcano grill. It works well for both a fire pit and bbq for food.

What about to bottom part of a water heater tank? Always free when the are discard, just cut the hight you want.

I saw someone using one of these, only he had welded a length of 2" square tube to it and carried it in the receiver hitch on his Sportsmobile. It could also transport about two bundles of wood...and a heavy trash bag thrown over the whole thing kept the rain out. Pretty slick.

Thought I'd bump this to see if anyone else is using different pits/pans than listed above. Summertime camping is among us! Time to get ready to hit the road.

I got this a couple of months ago to use in Anza Borrego and it works great. It's a good price and doesn't take up too much room and it weighs nothing. There's some better collapsible ones out there but they are over $100. the legs fold up too and it has a grill grate and cover so you can cook on it.

Is the washing machine tub too tall or too big around for your needs? If too tall, can you just cut it down so it fits in the available space? Would round, rectangle, or square fit your space better (stored on your rack or inside the vehicle)?

I was also going to suggest something that fits over the spare tire. A welding shop with a roller can roll a large hoop the size you need. Some stud extensions on your carrier and through your rim with a few wing nuts would hold it on nicely.

What about a steel truck rim?
