Hello all, picked up my new truck on Halloween and decided it was time to get a build thread started. This is my first post on EP, as well as my first ever build thread. So please bear with me!

Some backstory on what led me to this truck. I'm involved in outdoor activities fairly regularly, primarily mountain biking ,camping in the summer, plus trips up to the ski hill in the winter months. I often take 4+ riders including myself out of town for mountain bike trips, as close as an hour away and as far as 10 hours plus, so space and comfort was paramount. I looked hard at 4Runners, but lack of space and comparable price led me back to a full size truck. Plus, I don't think I'd fully utilize the off road features the 4Runner offers.

I'm coming from a 2WD Nissan Titan that served me well for 8+ years. I got away without 4x4 for years, but getting into a new truck, I opted for 4x4 to open up my options for destinations. I live in Phoenix and Arizona is full of amazing places I'd like to be able to access without worry of getting stranded. I'm looking to use the new truck for primarily forest road exploration, some mild offroading and overnight trips.

A little about the truck. 2016 Toyota Tundra DC, SR5 TRD, TRD upgrade package and safety/convenience upgrade. Brand new, 50 miles on it when I got it. This is the first new vehicle I've ever owned.

Short term plans
Mild lift, looking at Toytec 3/1 Boss kit with UCAs and AAL in the rear.

Wheels and tires, I trashed enough "all season" tires on my Titan driving on gravel roads to know I need at least a decent AT tire.

Camper shell, one big gripe about my last truck was secure storage. Can't really just leave bags of gear sitting in the bed. I'd also like the ability to sleep, sheltered, in the back of the truck. Probably do a bed rug as well.

Basic lighting upgrade, looking at the Baja designs LED fog kit.

Truck is getting the basics this week. Tint, spray in bedliner, weathertechs.

Long term plans

Storage system for bed, possibly a drawer setup or a slider. I need to use the truck for a while to decide what's going to fit my needs the best.

Roof rack on the camper shell, Maxtrax, Rotopax, extra gear storage etc, gratuitous amount of lights :sombrero:

OBA/shower/awning

Sliders, skids, locker. Depending how much offroading I actually end up doing.

Finally, waaaay down the road once the truck is paid off, a pop-up camper for the bed. I've been drooling over the Hallmarks for a while now.

That's is for now, I'll leave you with some poser shots of the truck after I picked it up. Thanks for reading!

Nice ride.. good luck with the mods.

On a side note, why do people always feel the need to ask how much someone paid for thier vehicle? Isn't that kinda personal?

Maybe they're searching for a similar vehicle and are looking to get an idea what market values are. I feel I got a decent deal on mine, so I don't mind sharing. I do hear where you're coming from tho, kinda like asking about someone's salary.

Nice truck. I bought a 2016 Tacoma a few months ago but was really considering the Tundras because the costs were very similar. In the end though the full size it too big for my needs.

Welcome! Looks like you have a good idea of where you want to go with the build. Enjoy the truck!

Those are inexpensive lifts, but based on the research I've done, not good for offroad. A better bet would be Bilstein 5100s. If you stick to <2.5" of lift, you shouldn't need UCAs.

I'm actually looking at 5100s or 6112s now. I'm trying not to do any lift in the rear, just get level. I need to be able to fit in my garage. Probably do 5100s for now on the middle perch, planning on getting Toyo Open Country RTs in a 285/75R18 on factory TRD wheels. I may get a small 1" wheel spacer purely for appearance.

Thanks for the input!

I love the look of these 2016s, cant wait to see how it turns out after your planned mods. Sounds like the truck is perfect for what you use it for too.

Got some off-road goodies installed today. ABS sensor guards and secondary air pump breather relocation kit.

Also finalized my suspension/wheel and tire setup. Going with Bilstein 6112/5160 combo. Dropping down to 17" wheels with 285/75R17 Toyo Open Country AT2s. Ordering everything tomorrow, hopefully it'll all be here to install next weekend.
