LR3 Spark Plug Pics

My LR3 was feeling a bit sluggish and so I changed the spark plugs today at 110,000 and thought I'd share the pictures, for those who like looking at such things!

The colors of the plugs all look to be good, although you can clearly see the wear on the ground electrodes.

NGK iridium, OEM part, got it from dealer parts guy.

Hope you didn't use anti-seize, the newer plugs are meant to not have it for consistent torque values when you put them in.

More than likely your injectors are partially clogged. I would have them flushed or try some fuel additive. While I have never tried it, I have some friends that have had good success with BG 44k in the tank to cure lean faults caused by clogged injectors.

I actually ran some BG 44k through the tank about a year ago, but I couldn't notice any discernible improvements at the time. These new plugs definitely improved the pickup.

Fascinating. I have used anti seize on plugs for a very long time, but know how tight they should be. I will reconsider after reading that TSB.

I had a lean fault. I ran the truck down to 1/4 of a tank, added two cans of Seafoam, then ran it until the low fuel light came on. Filled it up with 93 octane from Shell and haven't had the code since.

That is definitely interesting, but I have never had an issue using anti-seize on spark plugs. I've also never used a torque wrench, so I could see how anti-seize could throw off torque value. I have, however, fixed a handful of cylinder heads on Land Rovers where the spark plug pulled the threads out of the head and they did not have anti-seize.

A slightly lean condition is something that will gradually get worse over time and you will not notice it. I could probably drive your truck and tell you because I drive so many of them, but if you drive the same one every day, you won't notice it.

I call BS. The article says that installers are overtorqing the plugs causing the threads to mechanically fail. Right, so install plugs that will gall to the heads because some nimrod runs them in with an impact wrench.

****** does not know how to install a spark plug?

Suggestion: use anti-sieze and don't let that guy install your plugs.
