Perhaps because here in America we like the appearance of looking manly? Why so many scoff at the Ridgeline and Subaru Baja, though the bed in the Suby was fairly useless, maybe if it was a 2D they would of sold more?

Go to any big parking lot and tell me how many 2 door cars you see.

There aren't going to be many and there's a reason for that. ;)

The Baja was a victim of poor timing and weak commitment on the part of Subaru. It was brought out when fuel prices were dropping and nobody really had a reason to choose a Subaru over a bigger (and thirstier) truck. If they had waited about 3 years to introduce the Baja (when fuel prices started to shoot up around 2008) I think it would have been a success but it was one of those things where Subaru wasn't really committed to the platform and as soon as it failed to catch on they dropped it like a hot potato.

I also think the Baja was too small and underpowered to pull a trailer and that removed another potential segment of the market - compare with the Ridgeline, one of the favorite tow vehicles for small trailers.

Well shoot. I was thinking of practical useful bed space, doh! The regular cab pickup truck is all but dead.

We have a client that comes into work that has a Baja....with a topper...ummm....yeah. Reminded me of this one Land Cruiser build I saw, guy made it into a UTE by cutting off the rear of the roof...then put a topper on it. Oh boy! Why???

I say a number of reason play into it.
Tradition, because thats the way since grandads time.
Lighter unibody weight, presumably better fuel economy.
Dont forget the taxman. No matter where one lives. Its insane the different tax schemes designed to penalize ones choice over another.

Ahh that is right, forget the rest of the World gets taxed fairly heavy.
