Does anyone know of a source for the folding gas struts that are used on the Air Top RTT? Although I have not seen these in action, they look very suitable for my purpose

I'm not familiar with them, but looking at the picture, it looks like something that could be built pretty easily using some aluminum channel, struts, bolts, and hinges(or bolts) for the joints. Those may come with options, but if not, I suppose one perk to building them is that you can choose the gas struts that suit your build.

Talk with a poster with the handle of flipmachine. He makes trailers and might be willing to something like this

Looks like a great project! Id love to have something like this, but in the 6.5 x 16 sizish.. Ive noticed these sizes are available, in australia.
I'm guessing the pop top was added because of low clearance where your going, it might be a challenge to build. Good luck
