A new article out today in the auto news Motor1.com hints that the coming new Bronco may eventually include a “removable roll cage” to “
Remote a wide open” four wheeling experience.

Ford Bronco With Removable Roll Cage Suggested By Latest Patent

“One of the recently discovered patents that can be linked to the Ford Bronco is this – removable roll cages. Spotted by AutoGuide's All Ford Mustangs, the patent application suggests that the Ford Bronco might come with a removable roll cage for a 1960's off-road driving experience.

Based on the images included in the patent application, the B- and C-pillars are bolted on the SUV's window line, which then should be easily removed. How about the seatbelts, you ask? Accompanying patent images suggest that short pillars can be bolted on, replacing the roll cage and will serve as the point of attachment for the seatbelts.

Now, how about rollovers? Well, that's something Ford has yet to figure out in case the Ford Bronco will really have a removable roll cage.”

I'd be stunned if that was offered. I can only imagine the liability lawsuits...

It certainly does make you wonder....however one would also have to hope that a company as huge and successful as FoMoCo wouldn’t waist the enormous expenses involved in designing, engineering and filing for patents for this if it had not figured out ahead of time whether this was a viable project, no?

I think they've invested a lot more time and money into projects that were not deemed viable. I'm sure all car companies have.

I wish they would forget the removable crap and just make it a hard top.

I suspect there is more going than is obvious.

I'm more or less thinking how many prototypes are designed / built never to see the light of day by car manufactures.

For example, think of the twin engined push me pull me Chevy Citation. Think GM ever figured they would build and sell that car?

I recall reading this article in Hot Rod back in '98. There was also a BMW V12 powered '89 caprice, V10 or 12 C4 vette, 4 wheel steer camaro....

At this point I'm convinced that all this "new Bronco" news is either a bizarre psychological experiment being run by Ford to determine how gullible their potential customer base is, or else a colossal practical joke.

BTW, speaking of the Bronco, here’s a link to an article showing the purported new body of the “still in the works
Baby Bronco:

That thing looks like it would get its lunch money stolen by a Subaru Forester.

But it's a fitting companion to the "New Blazer." :ROFLMAO:

Coming soon: Dodge re-badges the Journey and calls it the "Ramcharger." :p

Nothing has to be actually be designed or work at all to file and win a patent. Just needs to be a concept drawn up and submitted to the USPO with enough evidence to show a significant difference that it doesn't infringe on any existing patents.

I don't know statistics but I suspect most patents are filed just so the legal department has proof to sue someone later and win royalties if someone does actually build it or something enough similar to call it infringement.

That took some intern 7 minutes.

If that's the "baby Bronco" maybe it will make it to production as the Freestyle or Taurus X...

I s'pose the same thing could be said for the current generation Jeep Cherokee.

Ford really seems to be enjoying playing around with lots of different possibilities for the Bronco. It looks like they now may also be planning to release a Bronco Pickup.

It’s been rumored for months that FORD might be considering putting a bed on the back end of its new Bronco...touting this Bronco Truck version as a competent competitor to the Jeep Gladiator, but whether this Bronco would be build as a 2 or 4 door remains to be seen. Either way, it sounds like this will be a desirable vehicle.

But the auto news industry updates I’ve recently read say we’re going to have to wait until sometime in 2024 to be able to buy one! Dang!

Hoping this new build is real is almost too frustrating an idea to even consider though, because now, some of us seriously thinking about getting a new mid-sized 4x4 truck will have to fight off the temptation to wait another four or five more years to decide what to buy.

I don’t want to keep my old, current rig for another 5 years, and I don’t want to buy something now and trade it in in only 5 years. I kinda wish now that I hadn’t read anything about the new promised truck model of the Bronco.

Aaarrggh!
