Wheel base for towing w/ a TJ?

I'm in the planning/ saving stage of getting the Jeep exo worthy. We'll be using a trailer, maybe a Conqueror or the upcoming AT (really like the look of this in the spy shot!)
I know I'm going to want to stretch the wheelbase, does anyone have a good idea of how much?

TIA,

Carlos

Stock or aftermarket axles can influence your decision on how much you want to stretch your wheelbase but a 5" stretch is pretty normal these days. Genrite makes some nice stuff including gas tanks that are stretch friendly.

Alot depends on what kind of wheelin you want to do. I stretched mine 15" in the middle...

Worked out great... but if I was to continue hard-core rock crawlin it would be a little long unless I went with bigger tires, 37+.

I like where it is at now and plan to go back to a 33" tire, lengthen the rear about 12". It is a completely different vehicle now. Ride for a Jeep is now comfortable and doesn't have that squirly short wheelbase feel.

Lumberjack,
Nice Jeep, it looks just different enough to mess with people. I would leave it alone it's cool...........Will a LJ top fit on it?

The LJ does not have the Squirrely feel of the SWB at a 10" stretch, I have not towed with it though...

Yes an LJ top would fit, but...

LJ's are nice, had to sell mine when I broke my leg last May. It was going to be my adventure vehicle, but...

anyhow, here is a sneak peak at one of the concepts I am considering...

I'd compare costs to swap your current mods to a factory stretch...an LJ. Why reinvent the wheel?

I towed a 1200# Coleman pop up camper with my SOA'd YJ on 35's with no issues for a couple of years. A longer wheelbase may be desirable, but I don't think it's required to tow a 2000# trailer. Trailer brakes would be a bigger help than the stretch, IMO.

Trailer brakes are a must with all Jeeps, especially those with larger tires.

We may be able to help you down the road with the pull out kitchen. We have one on the drawing boards.
