It depends what size tire you want to run. You don't need it for a 32" tire (265 or 235), you might for a 33" tire (285 or 255), beyond that you definitely need it.

That said, I'm running the 919 springs and don't have any first hand experience with the 912 springs.

and plan on running 285-75-16's for the trails

Ha! the link worked. I'm getting better at this stuff. If you need help with your lift I'm in Glendale, just PM me and let me know. I have a '98 I lifted.

I would not recommend a 3" lift. The suspension has a set amount of travel, so to gain height in the front, you need to rob extension to pay compression. Any more than 1.5-2" of lift will only make it look tall, but the truck will ride terrible, have no extension travel and start eating CVs...

The Trooper with 2" of height will easily fit a 285/75 tire, which is more than enough for all practical trail situations.

Just my opinion.

Summit Racing has these hubs for under $100.00. And yes you can install these on a TOD system. But if you do the mod it will act like a normal transfer case.

There is no reason for much of a lift to run a 265. I would not recommend running 285 without regearing and significantly improving the brakes. I'm not sure how much of a crank I have on the front, I can measure if you want, but if I recall it is slightly less than Scott had on his. I get a little rubbing with 285s on big whoops, but not enough to worry about and I want to keep as much down travel as I can.

Do a search here and on planetisuzoo.com for hub replacement instructions. It takes about 15 min. a side and you don't need to remove the wheels. Either Kevin or Zaphod did a pretty extensive writeup.

I'm running the Superwinch hubs on a '99 TOD and truth be told I would look into buying and rebuilding a set of Aisins. I'm not sure what it is about the Superwinch hubs, but they don't seem that well built. I haven't had any problems yet, but they just don't inspire confidence. I've had them about three years and it is time to pull them apart, inspect, lube, rebuild. It may have something to do with the crap that CDOT sprays on the roads in Colorado.

Independent4x sells a 3" lift kit with the 912 coils and a 1" spacer, but as Scott wrote, I don't really understand the point unless you are going for a big lift with big tires that are beyond what the vehicle can comfortably run without replacing and upgrading a lot of parts.

I'm sure Endo or Robertdarin will chime in with an explanation.

I will say this, the reason to buy from Independent4x is you are paying for someone who actually keeps the parts in stock and freely gives expert advice.
