Hi Sven!
You know me as 'Dee from Eugene', but I thought while I was on this site I'd dash off a note about the rack. The Boxes are going to look great! The spare cans on each side I would think will always be in the way while grabbing other stuff, unless you can climb up the rear spare. Surprised you didn't use the front on the rack and move the light boxes forward....sun roof?
Also why not put 3 horizontal bars between the verticals over the rear wheels then you could step on the wheel and have a ladder so you could reach over the gas cans. :coffeedrink:

hey dee,
welcome to the forum...
well, you guessed right. i want to be able to lift of the two hardtop pieces over driver and passenger seat - that's why the lights are sitting back...

and i'm going to have another bar welded between the verticals as a ladder :)

Can't wait to see it with the new tires.

and i have continued to work on the roofrack.
i added 'light boxes' similar to the ones i had on the xj, and spare can carriers.
it's still not done but almost and then it needs a good sandblast :)

still to come:
spare tire mount
tabs to bolt on storage boxes
a side step to get easier access to the top
and , of course, the Hella lights :)

OK I see those panels now...looks like, if you played everything just right, you could pop those up and slide them back under the rack for storage on the road. A couple of clever latches perhaps and voila ....pull forward for storm, shopping etc.
If your mother ever told you 'someday son, it will take you well over a year just to get a set of tires!' You would have never believed her. 'Mom...its a modern world!'

it's been 1.5 years by now, and yes i did believe it's a modern world :)))
maybe too modern, things become more difficult (at least in central europe...)

Maybe its time to save some coin and find the local Goodyear Store :)

i've bee doing that and it starts to take shape :)
but things are a bit more expensive here than in the US - and income is less - bad combo...
but i was invited to show my truck at the biggest off-road show in europe and do a presentation about 4-wheeling in the USA, so until then (11. june) it's gotta be done!!!

as mentioned i had problem with the ARB switch location.
they were shut off by the stick shift boot when in first or third gear...

here's my solution for the problem:
use the panel that didn't work in front of the shifter and modify it
IMG_3347.JPG

take off the windshield cladding
and modify that, too
IMG_3349.JPG

a few drilled holes, screwes, etc. and...

easy reachable...

Nice idea! Looks great!

Can you adjust your headlights from inside the cab? Whats the switch next to your 4 way flashers?
