Lid for M101

No one would know the difference if you took the trailer and bolted it on for the trip back.
My grandparents took a trip up into Canada several years ago in their GMC motor home. They crossed north near Niagara Falls. The Canadian Border guy asked if they had anything along for protection. My grandfather replied "Just this black dog" while pointing at Nikki, their black lab.

Several days later they crossed back south somewhere north of Seattle. The Canadian Border guy there said "I see that you still have that black dog!"

Hardware brands &/or sources?

Who makes the latches & handles you have there? I've seen them elsewhere, but can't find them now.

Also, what were the specs on the gas struts? Length & weight rating?

Thanks,
Steve

possibly interested if you are willing to ship to oregon. Has there been any updates into this?

I'm ready to load it on what ever shipping company you send.
Dryrock is driving up here today, if anyone wants one, maybe he is ready to bring some down south.

If he is ready to take more, payment would need to be done today, so he can bring more down, again if he is willing to do this.

Anyone who would like to have him bring more pm me and i will give you is number.

Picked up my m101 aluminum lid & installed it!

I drove from my home in eastern PA to Eric LeBlanc's shop near Montreal, Quebec, Canada this Thursday, and Eric and Philipe installed my lid. It works very well.

BTW I left my home at 3:30 AM and got home the *next* morning at 3 AM. A long day.
But I am very happy with my lid and its' install.

What Eric does not tell you is that he owns a shop that manufactures very complex air filtration systems as well as other complex one off metal fabricated equipment. He showed me a huge frame for manufacturing entire walls for buidlings, and the walls are rotated up and out using big hydraulic rams.

What I am saying is that for Eric to design and build these lids is very easy for him due to his skills and the skills of the folks that work for him. Eric designing and building these lids is severe over kill, but as a result the lids are very well designed and built.

The pictures he has posted accurately reflect the lids and how they look and work.

He designed the lid, and with the computer software he has, he can input various types and sizes of aluminum or the frame and the skin, and subject the finished product to stresses, and see how the lid will hold up. Nice.....

I could not be more pleased with my lid and its' function.

Eric is a pleasure to deal with and his lid and work are first rate. Stainless fasteners, it all lines up, etc.

I am very glad Eric did my install since the trailers are not square (but the lid is!), and there are various other idiosuncracies that experience has taught him about these trailers and the lids, so having him do the install eliminates so much aggravation, and the end product being installed correctly is a real pleasure.

He has an '83 BJ40 and wheels himself.

And, to be nice to Eric, if you buy one, I suggest you pay in cash.

Lastly, he has designed a spare tire carrier for the M101 trailer. Nice..... I bought one of these too :) I could not resist.

Contact me with any questions you may have.

Thanks Eric!!

i would love to see pics of that spare tire holder! I am so ready to pull the trigger but I can't find a shipper to send something that big. I tried UPS and on the internet tool they told me the dimensions were too big to ship. Does any body have any ideas on a shipper for canada to oregon??

I face the same problem for shipping, weight it is ok, just too big.

Fedex has a freight service, you can also check epic, http://epic.cfmvmt.com/

Let me find a picture of the spare carrier
EDIT: see pictures in this thread, he used my lid and tire carrier, you can install the tire carrier in front or in the rear.

This is not my lid, but when you install the tent on the proper side you can easily access the trailer even with the tent open

Here this will give you a idea, first the 3 studs are for eurovan bolt patern, so it is ok forthe original M101 tires. But you could grind off the stud and redrill you bolt patern if you are not running original rims.

also this is my spare, and it is the 1st version, it doesn't have the 1"x1" slot required to have the spare installed in the rear. The spare i have now (2 left) have the slot so you can install it in the rear or in the front.

Eric I have to correct you on one of your previous posts. The link you put to thread on the black trailer, that is your lid but not your spare carrier, he made his own.

Here's what yours looks like ;)

Edit: For shipping to Oregon check with DHL, I think they can handle large things like that, I think the cost should be between 350$-400$CAD
