Place the cap over a block of wood, place the strap over the hole it pops into and ********** with a light hammer or deadblow. Make sure you are supporting the flange from the bottom or you can/will crack it!

Thats actually the first thing I thought of and tried, didnt work - I'm going to try a c-clamp next & see if that pops it in...

Hmmm, not sure whats up? I've done a couple dozen that way? Mabey you need a bigger hammer :D

I think the c-clamp method would work great, alternatively a vise and a block of wood cut round to fit within the cap might be a safe option too.

This worked for me:
1. lay the strat down
2. place the cap over it
3. insert the inner disc
4. place handle of hammer over the center of inner disc and apply pressure

I simply leaned over the hammer and my body weight caused it to snap in.

If I have second hand cans that have the black gasket and have already been used for gas and have been damaged, can I use the black gaskets for gas? I plan on using the cans in an upright posirion and siphon the fuel into truck, rather than pouring with spout.

This method worked very well for me just the other day, while replacing some straps and one flange. Super easy, and didn't take much pressure. Thanks for the info.

Send Tom an email. He is very reliable and has sold a bunch of the Viton gaskets

I know, I know - old post.

I just ordered some gaskets from Tom and he said he will not be able to provide these after April of this year (2011), so it's probably a good idea to purchase any you need soon. Just a heads-up.

Thanks for the update! Tom had the best price. Others are asking for 2 to 3 times as much as he was.
