Pulmor Trailers

These look like they could make an excellent alternative to finding an old military trailer and spending time and money restoring it. I'm sure we'll have some critics of the fact that it is "plastic" but I've had quite a bit of experience with rotomolded boats and have been quite impressed with durability. I see some pics on the website with a roof rack with bikes on top, I wonder if it could hold a rtt and occupants?

Hmmm, that would actually fit the bill if you don't need anything too hardcore. Some bigger tires and some taller springs and your set! Price isn't too bad if it's only around 2k. However, thats 2k that can be put towards a new AT Clamshell:D

They used to sell them through Costco and they got popular for a while with the FJ Cruiser (IH8TMUD) crowd; one of the FJ guys lived near the owner of the company in Colorado and I think they worked a group buy.

With better hinches I think they should, as they are design they can only hold 175lbs!

Very interesting design. You would only need an exo-skeleton if you wanted a roof top tent . With the right UV stabilizer package, LLD polyethylene is an incredibly durable material. To increase the load capacity just beef up the frame, add a 3500 lb axle and throw a few more pounds of resin into the mold. With the right mix of colorant you could match most tow vehicles. It looks like the fenders are add ons so increasing tire size should not be a problem.

Quite large for the size (7'x4'x2.5'), all fiberglass tub made specifically for the KC Chiefs in the mid 90s for tailgating and sold through Price Choppers only. This one has a 1996 plate on the tongue. Only problem I have is the hatch door has sat unprotected in weather for such a long time, it warped as well as surfaced cracked.

Very cool...

Is that fiberglass? Clear coat it to save the art, throw a wider, heavier axle under there, some big tires and go camping!:clapsmile

The art is just vinyl stickers. With a little heat, I could remove them easily. I've never done fiberglass, so I'm not sure what can be done and what I should do with the top. I was thinking a soft tonneau cover. But I've got another trailer with that setup. The body itself has a few rub marks but overall nothing else wrong with it. The frame could use a little paint work as it looks like it sat still for a long time.

I like it!

I think the top is salvageable. Cut an aluminum diamond plate to fit inside the top reinforcing ribs. Have a nice railing welded to it that will work as a basket and place to attach anything else you might want to add. The rails will serve to bridge or stiffen the top. Add sealer between it and the top to "glue" the two together and bolt it down. That should serve to strengthen the top, spread out any load added and really make a nice looking addition.
You may need to upgrade the struts to account for the additional weight of the rack, but that is easily accomplished.

Nice find!
