2010 Toyota 4runner Teaser

Seems like a redundant system with no justification. I have yet to see an argument that places push button operation above lever. I have seen a couple that say "it will do" or "it has worked so far." Bottom line... if you want reliable for the enthusiast/professional, go with the lever. If you are an occasional warrior, button is easy, simple, and reliable....ish.

I guess we'll have to start calling Toyotas "iron pigs" again. That
4Runner photo looks pretty sad to me.

Re: no V8, the V6 has been pumped up to power levels approaching
the V8, with better fuel economy. Many manufacturers will adopt the
"power of a V8, fuel economy of a V6" mantra as they work to meet
the new corporate average fuel economy rules.

The 2010 Lexus GX470 is also based on the Land Cruiser Prado chassis.
The GX470 will continue with a V8, and it won't have the exaggerated
front fender flares shown on the 4Runner.

haven why don't you like it? To me it looks exactly like an offroader should look. The current 4Runner looks like an overgrown Camry wagon (old body Camry). IMO a truck shouldn't have such swoopy organic lines, especially not in this age of crisp, clean, functional styling (see Xterra, JK, H3, etc)

I'm not a big fan of angular lines but I'm sure I can/will get used to it. I don't hate it...

It does look like an aftermarket front bumper will have to be huge, as the front plastic seems to go everywhere.

The old 4.7L V8 already got almost the MPG of the V6, if I remember correctly the highway rating was only 2-MPG lower, 19 instead of 21...

In the 4th Gen 4Runners, I think the V8 without AWD could possibly get as good as the V6, there simply is not much difference in the displacement. It’s probably much more important how they are used and loaded.

Looks kind of like a Honda Pilot to me.

The billboard sized grille reminds me of the new Tundra, and not in a good way (I think the 2nd gen Tundra is hideously ugly.)

From the firewall back it looks OK but I'd be interested in the specs.

My understanding is that there is a 4 cyl option? Does that mean a manual transmission will also be available for the first time since 2000?

I'd be stoked if it came with a manual T-case lever. An electronic-shift t-case has nothing to do with giving a convenience to the driver, it is really only a convenience to the engineer who designs the vehicle because he doesn't have to put a mechanical linkage to the T-case, just a button or dial that can go anywhere.

According to my EPC there isn't a 4cyc motor or a manual trans available. It looks like a suzuki axiom to me.

Maybe "plastic pig" or "puffy plastic pig". (ppp for short)

I don't love it but I don't hate it either. I see it being difficult to mod for functional bumpers and sliders with all that cladding. Then again, maybe we will be pleasantly surprised like this project with the Lexus 470.

The grill on the 4Runner looks better than the grill on the Pilot.

Only if by "better" you mean "marginally less ugly" with the emphasis on the word "Marginally."

Grille is too low IMO. Makes the whole front of the vehicle look low. Hopefully the aftermarket will cure that, I can't imagine anybody getting excited about tearing all that plastic off on a trail.
