The Roof Rack Thread

Most of us here on the expo love our roof racks and even occasionally covet the racks of other Expo members. It seems that we could all gain from the ideas and ingenuity of other members. So post pics and details of your racks up so we can all learn something.

I figured I would start this thread off with the new rack on my Tacoma.
The rack was built on my basic design by a local firm called All Metals Welding. Good folks that I have the pleasure of working with on a regular basis.

The rack is obviously constructed of aluminum. The tubing is mostly 2"x1".

Plenty of gussets...

57" inside width wide to accommodate my RTT with a little room to spare...

2"x1" supports every 24". One these supports easily handles my 220lbs. My order of Polymax kennel flooring will be here tomorrow.

Full length diamond plate rails allow for easy access to the top of the rack. The rails also wrap around the inside of the bed rails for some extra security.

Thus far I am very pleased with the outcome. I'll be adding the Polymax flooring, the RTT, a Kaymar Hi-Lift bracket that I've had in the garage for years now and who knows what else.

That looks nice. Reminds me of a Construction type headache rack. Now time for a shameless plug.
Ask for Josh.

That's just perforated steel sheet. Should be available at any good size industrial metal supplier. I like using it as well, it looks SOO much better than expanded metal. However, it's also heavier, and not nearly as grippy so...

Hannibal Rack, designed for a Jeep Cherokee but I find it fits the $runner just fine. Especially after the reduction.

Just finished mine. It wanted something low profile and something that fit between my Yakima bars and bike trays and still hold my folding table.

In the San Diego area I would recommend people consider Cliff Furst of First Engineering for any custom welding and fabrication. (760-789-6731) For all related work, Cliff is almost a "diety".
