After several years of hemming and hawing over what I should do with the seating arrangement I finally pulled the trigger and started tearing the cab apart. The major change was the back seat area. It originally had a bench seat that sat three a bit cramped. Under the bench was a storage area that originally had a 20 gallon water bladder that the PO had used in Africa. Not trusting the sanitary conditions of the water bladder it was also removed. This left me with a blank slate. This is what I have done so far, reupholstered the front seats, tore out the back seat and cleaned up years of accumulated dirt that had been collected from the UK to Africa to the US. I have two seats for the back that are just sitting back there until I fab up some brackets that will allow the seat backs to reamain in place while the seat bases fold forward to allow access to the storage area beneath. I am also looking at insulate the back wall of the cab now that the bench seat is gone it is just a bit louder. My only complaint so far is that the seats are two different fabrics but in the grand scheme of things it's really not a issue with me as I'm not much of a purist. Oh, and before you mock the fan, you Defender owners know how bad inside window fogging can get, this fan along with the regular heater takes care of that problem in no time, it's a life saver.
