I almost built one of these instead of my m101. I wish I had looking back on it. I think it would have been a better starting point for what I ended up doing.

I'll be interested to watch the build and get some ideas.

Problem is klmore...I can't make my mind what I want to do...

RTT on the top...flip open like a Flippac....pull out hard side bed (queen size)..

I'm shooting for the batteries and water tank low

Oh dear...:chef:

Be careful about making it too complex.... I keep thinking about the pull out idea (although mine would just be enough to make a 5' wide area into full size 6.5' bed, about 1.5' - 2' of pull out) and I keep coming back to setup time, complexity, and weight. If you think you can realistically make it work than fine, but be careful. You don't want to spent that amount of time and end up with something that is hard to use, or worse, something you end up not liking.

I still like your original trailer idea a lot, have a roof tent create a back room with canvas walls and open up the back for access inside. Then have a kitchen area on the side. My next trailer will probably use a similar setup using my Globetrotter (trailer access on the side, kitchen in the back).

When you design your sliding mechanisms, keep in mind that it should still work after you dragged your trailer for 8 hours over dusty washboard roads! Fold-out sides might work more reliably under all conditions than sliders.

I dig the design. I been thinking a lil more on them lines too. I got to sleep 5 and one of them don't like cramped spaces much.

You can always chuck one in the truck..lol

Ok....drugs have worn off and I'm back down from a Sketch up high....

After much thought and contemplation I'm scraping the solid build design. From a personal standpoint I love many things about the first build, that said, my biggest hang up was I had no more room for expansion. The first build is compact, lightweight and pretty slick (in my mind). The down side was no brakes, water and cooler exposed, and not long enought to sleep in (for a 6' footer anyway) but would hold two kids great.

The other side of the new build is I don't want to spend all summer putting it together. If the old one sells in the spring then my backs against the wall to finish this and enjoy the summer. The new platform will have brakes, a heavier suspension, ability to add a water tank and batteries even if I end up raising the floor. I also love the tent on the top, and I've decided on the ARB Simpson III with annex and two ARB 99" awnings out either side. I'm planning on the "kitchen" tops and cabinets to be able to mounted on either side (because some campsites just dictate that). The inside will comfortably sleep two adults (cept maybe Big Bill) and be insulated. There will be connections for a insta-hot shower unit plumbed to a potty/shower tent.

I'm hoping that with the heavy stuff centered between the wheels, and a lightweight, wood framed pod on the trailer, the tent won't make it to top heavy off road, although with the plan to stay mainly at campsites, the new Trail Edition has opened new avenues.

So there it is...enough nights lost sleep tossing and turning on what to do...helmets on, visors down, we're goin' in....:snorkel:

As much as I would have loved to see you pull off the first sketch you posted up, I think this one will be a lot more practical.

Can't wait to see this come to fruition. Any better plans or ideas on your kitchen slide?

The plan is to "hook" the (handmade)componets on the side....either side as far as that goes, so it doesn't matter which way I need to face. I think this can be accomplished with aluminum brackets.

I like them both, though I like the first better. It's your trailer though so build what ever will suit your needs. The rest of us won't complain though if you keep designing ideas for us dumb folks with no cad experience lol.
