Camper on my 130?

Although funtion is my primary goal whatever way I go I will miss the original set up and plan on keeping all the parts in the eventuality that I change my mind at some point down the road. The previous owner put much thought and time into this truck which I have reaped the benafit from. The rack, awning and fold out side table are purely funtional and accentuate the lines of the truck not distract from them. Any camper I end up puting on my truck will look an abomination compared to it's current condition but I am at a point in my life where my kids actually want to spend time with my wife and I. This wont last long and I want to take advantage of it. My parents drove me and my brother all over the west when we were kids doing rafting and backpacking trips and i want to do the same for mine. When my kids get older and move out I may put it back to it's original form but my feeling is that once I get used to suiting up for skiing in a warm truck I'll change my mind:sombrero:

I'm in the same position except the only thing I did with my parents was skiing (year round). After some discussions with K.C. and Mark Stephens, and carefully examining all my barriers to travel (all the reasons I don't want to go) I came to the conclusion that for me, my family, my needs, a camper is first priority and off-road is second. The ability to quickly set and break camp, year round, in a mater of minutes, in any weather is critical to a happy traveling family. Believe me when I say that I would love to have a FWC on the back of a 130. I really don't think it gets much better than that.

noooo. i thinka flipac would be awesome though.

can you not sleep in your 130? i would be wiling to bet there is a lot of room, and i vaguely remember you saying you slept in there on rainy nights anyways? you could also leave the tailgate open if it isn't long enough...

The bed on my 130 is appx 5ft and I'm 6'6. I'm interested in Dales flip pac scenario. Dale thanks for picking up that bumper in Denver for me.

I measured the bed of the 130 today and it's about 5'6". I have to sleep diag. if I want to close the door and still stretch out.

yeah my car trailer ramps are 5 ft and fit with some room 2 spare. good to know its 5'6. do you have a rear door or the thicker tailgate ?
How tall are you Kelly ?

below is an original factory promo picture for the 1984 127. I know were there's 1 of these (white) in the Uk with a 300 tdi engine but the rear bed cover like Kellys for cheap if anyone is interested-300 Tdi.

2nd pic is my truck before I put the Rockware bumper on.

130's RULE !

Here's an '84 in Modesto - asking $5600. easy on gas - lots of room. this one's not a syncro, but I wonder how hard it is to modify.

Easy on gas? I have a friend with one, not a camper, not a syncro, just a straight up "terrorist van" and he reports 15-18mpg from it? It's got a tiny 1.9L motor that you basically run full throttle all the time to go places.

lost, but making time
Tray back / flat bed

Was thinking of this thread earlier and found it:
http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20289&highlight=oztray

With this and an ATC/FWC, alu utility storage boxes could be attached on the sides in place of where the bed sides were. The battery could be moved from under the seat to under the flat bed (allowing a single, very large starting battery or two batteries, etc.), along with aux fuel tanks, etc., not that I have thought about this or anything... ;)

Cheers,
Frank

I'm 5'11" and have the door instead of the tailgate. The tailgate would be nice to extend the bed but I like the door for security.

You can diesel a Westy just like anything else. 28-30MPG+ isn't that uncommon.

Sure but... I was just commenting on the standard Westy. He's not the type of guy who'd put time and money into it. It's just a mountainbiking transport.
