Finally my 1988 fj62

I have always been a Toyota guy and have been trying to get my hands on an older Landcruiser for a while. I finally found the right deal and dropped some cash on an 88 fj62. The truck was a daily driver but was parked a few months back because it was replaced by a gas sipping Honda. The owner wasnt too sure why it wouldnt start and just wanted it out of his yard. So I was all too happy to help him. The engine bay looks great, interior is in good shape, exterior is pretty good as well. Has a couple of rust spots above the driver's side rear wheel well but everything else looks good. I will post some detailed pictures tomorrow. My current plans are to get it running, which hopefully wont take too much, then a mild lift and get the old winch off and my new winch on. Then I will address the rust issue as well as preserving the undercarriage. I plan on keeping this truck for a long time.

Here it is sitting on the trailer. Fits like a glove.

Very nice,
I like the color and I'm guessing that is a factory winch of some sort?

Thank you, I love the color as well. I almost bought one last year that was the same color but it got away.

I thought the winch was some kind of factory setup when I saw it in pictures too. It turns out, however, the original owner fabbed this setup himself. The guy I bought it from didnt even know how the winch worked. There are custom cut brackets holding the bumper out and then a custom winch plate underneath. It is definitely not factory. I will probably bring the bumper in a little more when I mount my winch. It sticks out a little too far I think.

Congrats.

Very cool. If you need any 3FE help, let me know. What winch is stuffed in there? Very interesting mount, I'm sure.

Thanks, I definitely know nothing about the 3FE, which is actually kind of exciting. The winch is an old WARN MX6085. It's rated at 6,000 lbs but according to some it will pull as strong as some new 8,000 lb winches. I have actually got it for sale already.

So here are some pictures of the LC. I hooked it up to my truck's power today and it purred like a kitten. The alternator seems to be bad and the battery is totally dead, so I ordered a new alternator today as well. Hopefully it will be cruisin the streets by next week.

Very nice. Congrats. What plans do you ahve for it? Or are you going to leave it fairly stock?

Thanks, I plan on some mild modifications, but I would like to keep it pretty close to its original condition. I am going to do something different with the winch mount and bumper. I havnt decided that yet.
I'm sure the springs and shocks could stand to be replaced so maybe 3-4" of lift and some 33x10.50s. Also some swaybar disconnects. Nothing crazy just a nice rig to run fire roads and some mild trails in.

Can you post a pic on how the rear heater controls are integrated into the console?

Thanks,
Dave

Haha, I dont know that they are. I havnt looked that closely at them. I know the vent is still there but I dont remember seeing the controls. I will check it out tomorrow and post a picture.

Nice score man! Welcome to the cruiser world. Let me know if you ever need parts for it. I should have come good rear wheel arches from a parts rig so you can fix that rust easier.
