Weigh in on your lift choice

I am new to Toyotas. I am curious as to what company makes the better lifts. I thought that OME made good lifts, but from what I have read maybe they don't. Donahoe is out of business, right? Please weigh in on what you are using and how it works, what you'd have done differently, lift hieght and tire fitment etc.

Icon Vehicle Dynamics....the new Donahoe....

if you're looking for a less expensive alternative, search for the adjustable Bilstein 5100. Haggis has a set on his DC Tundra and they ride well and were relatively easy to install....

Oh yeah, does that mean you purchased a newish Toy? Whadja get?

I have the older Donahoes and by the end of the summer I will be replacing them with OME. It all boils down to what you need them to do. When I lived in San Diego, I needed something that worked better for the faster washboard roads I drove on in the desert. Heat fading was an issue and the 'Hoes were all the rage. Up here I need something that is a lot simpler in design that will stand the harsh conditions we face. They also have a softer coil rate that will aid in getting the most out of my suspension in the rough slow stuff I see up here. Hoes are awesome for what they are, OME is awesome for what it is. Pick your needs, pick your poison.

OME for me! Love the ride on and off the road. The only time they give up is when I try to run fast in the desert with whoops. That's where a coil over would have the advantage.

Hate to say not yet, but not yet. I am in the planning stages still. I need to start pricing things and get my ducks in a row. For now I am stuck with the Expedition for light offroad family trips and the XJ bucket for the harder core things. But I will keep you posted on the progress. I appreciate the interest, my wife is tired of hearing about it daily, and my brothers are Jeep fans.

I drove myself nuts over this same question and i ended up going with the OME, saving at least $500 (if not $1000), and have a great riding truck! Call Kurt up at cruiseroutfitters.com and he will get you set up right. :smiley_drive:

Unless everyone here knows who you are, how you drive, where you drive, and what your rig is (I dont)- seems that you should share that info if you are interested in anything other than someone boasting about their *******.

Tons of variables and there are setups for each one and some for many.
Do you have deep pockets or a limited budget? SA or IFS, Tundra/FJ/FJ40/FJ80/T4R1-2-3-4-5, desert/mud/sand/rocks/trees/street????
throw us a bone

Not trying to be rude, but you have asked the most general suspension question there is and this post will be of no use to anyone if there are no parameters.

Lots of great Toyota setups out here- Camburg, Chaos, Marlin, All-pro, Sky, Demello, fror, ICON, OME, FOX, KORE---- just to name a few

Good point in above post. Let us know what you are interested in doing with your rig.

For me OME was the best choice. OME at all four corners and I am happy.

x2 on post 10/Zidaro's observations, but I will say OME-Dakars have served me well the last 3 years in offroad locations through 6 states, SW desert to Mid-Atlantic regions and travelling to those locations - sometimes 2500 miles. They've stood up well and have been maintenance free.

I have one other thread I recently started that explains where I am coming from. It is the Tundra Vs. Tacoma thread. Read the begining for more info. However I am trying to decide between an older Tundra or Tacoma, and my budget is limited. I only want between a 2"-3" lift that will give me the clearence to do slow trails and backcountry exploring. I also want it to ride well on the road. It will be used as a truck when needed and haul plenty of gear regualaly, and pull an M416 trailer. I work with the Boy Scouts and we camp monthly. It will also rarely (once or twice a year) pull a 17 ft hybrid camp trailer 75 miles to Moab which my Cherokee does alright. OME lists a medium duty and heavy duty lift, for either truck, which is the only lift I had looked at prior to coming to the portal. I would like to know how harsh a ride the heavy duty lifts is. Now I am curious what people are using and how it is working for them, and what driving they are doing with their trucks.

P.S. The post was actually helping with my question quite well, but this should make it better.

Sounds like OME would be a good choice for you.
