Cheap 'Home Made-ish' Watertight Storage Boxes

Got my hands on quite a few boxes that served as former electrical containers. Only problem is they are an ugly light gray color (Go figure) and each has three small holes cut in them for conduit to run inside.

However for free, I can afford to fix them up and make them useful. They just have way too much potential to allow them to be thrown away. All that is needed is some plexiglass to cover the holes from inside the box, laid down with silicone to keep it water tight, and some tough paint. None better than spray on bedliner.

With about $20 I can make several of these. Keeping a few for my use and the rest if anyone is interested I may sell off, or just throw away. :sombrero:

One of the small holes where the conduit used to run into, the other two are on the bottom side.

And they're even capable of being padlocked. :sombrero:

The ACOG is much more interesting!! (Could not resist :) )

Good job on saving the resources used to go into those boxes.

Great idea, looks like an awesome storage solution!

Nice work! What are the outside dimensions?

Thanks. :sombrero:

The outside dimensions would be.....

153/4 x 133/4 x 63/4

I was thinking for whoever may want one, I can just send them the box the way it is to begin with (Light gray in color, with two or three conduit holes that can be filled the way I mentioned above or a number of other ways) or atleast do that for the guys who would rater pay a less and just do it themselves.

I also know I have a few much longer in length boxes like these, but I'll have to wait and get the dimensions on them later since I don't have them with me currently.

Those dimensions are perfect! I might be interested in 2 plain boxes. I'm definitely a DIY-er :) How much would you like for 2?

I was thinking something along the lines of $15 per box, or $10 per box if you buy multiples.

Soo... $20 + shipping for two? :sombrero:

Okay, as it turns out I currently have 6 of these boxes. One already has the holes filled and is ready to go once you add some new paint

I also have one large box that measures...

251/2 x 251/2 x 101/4

It has four holes on the bottom, four on one side, and two on the other side. Could easily be patched and made water tight again, or would be great as a cargo bin inside the vehicle.

If one was to look for theses boxes where could they be found??

I really have no clue. They're just electrical utility boxes, so I'm sure they could be found a number of different places. Not sure where the best place to find some you can actually have would be though.

you will probably be able to find them online some where, but i would guess you wont like the price. i'm an electrician, and although i don't know the exact price, i would say they are not cheap.

Not cheap at all. My cuz is an elec contractor. Many of the ones sold here are pretty spendy. If you could not get one from hillbilly it might be better to just buy some for the bundi guy on here. They are like $40. I might try to talk my cuz intro giving me some of the ones he removes for a new panel.
