Test Drove New Tacoma--Something Strange Happened

I was at the Toyota dealer on other business and thought what the heck, lets test drive a new Tacoma . So the salesman got the keys to a new 2010 Tacoma TRD crew cab . As he backed it out of the parking spot and swung it around so I could get in rusty water came poring out from somewhere under the bed . I mean a couple of gallons of nasty, rusty water ! As we turned out onto the highway more came out and when it dried it stained the pavement . I'm talking a couple of gallons, not a cup full .
Yea I know the water is from rain but where is it collecting and what is rusting that bad on a truck with 4 miles ?
Again it came from under the bed, not from in it .
Any ideas ?

The bed is plastic so no rust from that.
Are you sure it was rust? Gadds I hop not

In So. CA in my area pollen covers the cars and standing water (yellow but not a rusty color?).

Yea it was rusty water .I even bent down and took a close look at it . I was standing right behind it when it happened the first time . Came out from somewhere underneath the bed .

What did the sales guy say when you showed it to him? You did show him the rusty water right?

Did water get into the frame some how?

Are they boxed frames? I haven't looked under a new Tacoma yet.

Perhaps rain water from the building's roof that was rust colored got into the bed. That is if the truck was parked next to the building.

No, the trucks were parked way out by themselves .

I believe Tacoma frames are boxed from the cab forward and C shaped in the rear...wouldn't think it would be from the frame. Not sure where gallons of water could collect except for in the bed.

Hmmm. I wonder if somehow water was able to full up the cavity above the spare tire... I'm reaching at straws here.

Maybe it was just dirty water in the bed.

Rotting leaves in water can look rust colored, leaves could blocked the drain holes in the bed, would explain a couple gallons pouring out....(I dunno :D)

its not a transplant from Nashville is it?

people gotta be leery after a flood like that..the dealers will have the cars interior cleaned..but the rest was STILL under water...then they ship them off to other dealers that buy them discounted due to the flooding...

be leery...

Yeah... I can think of nowhere that gallons of water can collect - rear frame is C channel and the spare can't collect gallons...

A mystery to me

I'd ask him to pull out the truck right beside that one, and see if it does it as well.
But look in the bed first, just to make sure there's not sitting water in there. ;)

Very weird though...

Doesn't make any sense. There are thousands of Tacomas in Florida and other rainy states. I've never heard of a single "rusty water" problem before. It's impossible for "a couple of gallons" of water to collect beneath the bed.
