Dual Battery Tray in Disco II?

I don't find any info on this - the only thing I find is Aedofab and I emailed them but received no response - anyone know who makes one or is it all one off's by individuals?

Thanks, G

most of us relocate the jack, and enlarge the battery box to accommidate duals. Quite easy actually.

Hi D:

We chatted once about a RRC I had here in Apex but I ended up selling to my uncle. I removed the jack and stock plastic battery box but the remaining floor is not even - did you fab a new floor to sit the batteries on? Build a new box?

Thanks, G

If you have a RHD Td5 without rear aircon (which you probably don't, but might benefit some other people reading this thread), ARB part no 4232030 looks like this:

Have you considered just putting a single Group 31 battery in the location of the original battery? They fit like it was made for it, and a Group 31 Odyssey will have as much capability/capacity as 2 normal batteries. The only thing it would be lacking is *redundancy*. But depending on what it is that you need, it can be a much simpler solution.

Thanks for the thought - I have thought of that and may end up going that route soon if fabbing a tray is too much trouble. In the end, I probably don't NEED two batteries but do like the idea for safety sake way out in the wild.

I know of a few guys just running the Odyssey PC2150 with no problems, myself included. They fit right in without any major mods and are easy to install, just make sure you get the SAE adaptor posts with it.

This is my install, I relocated the jack & used the space for the winch Albright solenoid & an 80A solenoid for the aux ccts.

lost, but making time
I had been in contact with them a while ago, regarding one for a D1.
I recall there being some lag time.
Don't hesitate to give them a call.

A PC680 could be installed where the jack used to be as a backup starting battery. I've jump started my truck a number of times on a PC625 and it easily did the job. This approach simplifies the battery management. All you need is a solenoid to connect the backup battery when the engine is running. When you need to use the aux battery as a starter, just use some short jumper wires.

Alternatively, I wonder if a similar arrangement could be made with the smaller battery permanently wired to drive the starter exclusively. Then if the small one dies, use jumpers again to the big battery.

Either way, what I have found is a small Odyssey will easily crank a big engine, it's all you really need for starting duty. It's got the amps, just not the capacity for "house" loads.

AedoFab still in business

I just received an email from Mike Aedo. AedoFab is still making dual battery trays for Disco II's -I'm ordering one and will give thoughts on the product when received.

I installed the AedoFab tray in my DII a couple of years back. The quality and fit were very good. Worth the expense, IMHO.

I have been running two Optimas with a National Luna battery relay set up. Except for a premature failure of one battery (that's a whole nuther thread) this arrangement has worked well. I used JBL connections on the battery posts to give me a clean install and to provide extra connection points for the lines to the relay, hotel distribution block and a separate set to the disconnect for my winch.

I know StreetWolf runs an Optima Blue-top (largest one they sell) and its a tight fit, but we did not have to cut the box up (still retains factory jack area), it has standard posts and wing-nut posts for accessories as well and we have never ran the battery dead nor does the turning on of the 6 Hella 4000's with 135w bulbs even dim the dash or other lights on the vehicle anymore. I see no need to run anything bigger than that or a dual setup when a single large deepcycle battery does the job....maybe if you have TONS of equipment needing powered for long periods, but the average owner...not needed.
