2011 Jeep Wrangler(s)

Jeep is really pushing the new 2011 Grand Cherokee, but info on the new Wranglers is limited to rumors, drawings and photos of old concepts posted on the web.

A local dealer here in Florida tells me the 2011 Wranglers will initially come with the "old" 3.8L and not the newer 3.6L Penastar...This may not even be true because they don't have one on their lot yet.

So is there anyone posting on Expo Portal who can tell us about the 2011 Wranglers?

Search is your friend... that being said, most indications from "insiders" on other boards like jkforum and jkowners seems to indicate no pentastar v6 for 2011 MY. There will however, be an updated interior, 70th Anniversary Package, and certain colors will have color matched tops available as an option.

As always, take it with a grain of salt... Jeep has been pretty secretive with the 2011 JKs so as to not impact sales of the 2010 models still remaining.

3.8L vs 3.6L Penastar

2010-2011 Jeep JK with 3.8L

Horsepower 202 @ 5200

Power to Weight Ratio 18.73

237lb-ft at 4,000 rpm

2011 Wrangler with possible PentaStar 3.6L

Horsepower 290 @ 5200

Power to Weight Ratio 13.05

260 lb-ft at 4,300 rpm

I'm waiting for the 3.6L Penastar or diesel before I sell my '01 with 4L straight six.

AEV will finance a new Jeep with a Hemi... or if you have even more money you can get the J8 milspec w/ the 2.8L diesel.
I get the Chrysler employee discount and I will still not buy new from the stealership. The Jeep brand is systematically being diluted and ruined. I wouldn't count on Chrysler to give us what we want. We are not the targeted demographic for their marketing efforts. We are the weirdos who modify and take the vehicles off highway.
The Wrangler will follow the XJ, and WJ and be discontinued, replaced and ruined w/ IFS and possibly IRS models.
I do like what one of the off road magazines did about a year ago. They bought a bare bones 2wd 4door JK and with the difference in money that it would of cost them to buy a Rubicon they built a bad ***** Jeep. Dynatrac D60's, Atlas T-case and 40" MTR's were just a few of the modifications they made. Great idea and an awesome build!

AEV J8 on hold

Recently contacted AEV and was informed the J8 program is on hold. They will take your order, but can't guarantee a delivery date.

Well if they did that then they deserve failure because the Wrangler is the only brand with a significant profit margin. Never mind the brand equity itself. Now over the years I have come to realize you should never underestimate the stupidity of people but I don't think Fiat are quite that stupid. However, I have been surprised by many in the past...

Chrysler-Fiat is really pushing the new 2011 Grand Cherokee this year, so they must think (or hope) that's where they can sell the most units to produce the most profit.

Sure, we'd all like to see a 3.6L Penastar in the Wrangler or better yet a diesel and how about a pickup or Lower 48? The inconvenient truth is "we" may just be a niche of a niche market segment....A fanatic, enthusiastic, eager and very SMALL market segment. Yes, the Wrangler was their best selling brand last year, but it was down from the previous year sales by about 6%.

Chrysler is in trouble and swinging for the fences with the 2011 Grand Cherokee.

If the interior of FJ Cruiser was made for people taller than 5'4" and you could see out of the darn thing, I'd buy one of them before buying a 2010 Wrangler with that gutless 3.8L re-labeled as a 2011 with "exciting" new colors.

You may be right - eventually. But the "end" of the CJ/Wrangler as a truly capable off-highway vehicle has been predicted for at least the last three generations of the vehicle, yet every new generation yields a more modernized vehicle, but one that remains true to its heritage.
